I looked at quite a few mid-level lux cars and this had them all beat. I dont live where the additional cost of quattro is necessary, so I chose the 3.0 CVT. This is almost as smoothe as my electric car I had to give back to the mfg. I love it!

  • Squealing Brakes - 2003 Audi A6

I got an Audi A6 for a change of pace from a BMW 528. But, I am having a problem that has turned my likes into dislike. For the past 1500 miles, the brakes have been squealing terribly when braking. The dealer did an adjustment on them which Audi recommends for this problem. All they did was scuff up the pads and rotors with sandpaper. 30 miles later, and they were squealing again. Spoke to Audi customer service, and they consider this acceptable due to the nature of semi-metallic brake pads. They said there is nothing else they can do if there is no physical problem. So I get to drive around a $50K car that sounds like a city garbage truck when braking.

This is the second A6 that I have purchased, (the first being a 98 A6 2.8 tiptronic). Being an architect, the design brought me in, and then the quality and attention to detail made me hang around. The difference in the power and thrust in the 2.7t from the previous 2.8 is astounding: even faster than my 2001 TT roadster 225. Having the available 6-speed manual has made my A6 ever so much more fun to drive. As good as the Tiptronic was, it is just no match for a manual.

This Audi is far better than the BMW 5 Series. It has a smoother ride, more powerful engine, and wonderfully exicuted interior design. The 2.7T is possible the best engine I have ever driven. Thats a big statement because I have driven a 530i, E320, Saab 9-5, and its predisessor the 100 S.

  • AWESOME CAR - 2003 Audi A6

Overall this is a grate car for its money I got a very good deal too. Luxury and exclusivity is unsurpassable, performance could be better but I don’t expect much form a 3900lb car. Sport suspension is a just perfect, but steering and brakes are num. Lots of room and comfortable seats. Safety is unbelievable, a domestic car side swiped me, my car had a little dent, but the other car was completely smashed I got a crystal blue metallic, and for my knowledge there are only 3 in existence. Bose system could be better, but this is after a $2,000 after market stereo.

I bought the A6 with CVT. Audi is completely right in that you dont feel it shifting, but it still feels like an automatic, while getting better gas mileage. The interiors are just incredible. I also own a Lexus RX- 300 and there is no comparison to it. The Audi is far better in quality of materials, and I love the aviation-red controls. Finally, the Bose system is just spectacular.

  • My Audi Rocks! - 2003 Audi A6

Test drove: BMW 540 - interior was too small, handling was good but not good enough MB E500 2003 - very nice, but $1000 gas guzzler tax! Infiniti M45 - interior too small even for a mussel car. Lexus 430 - nice but made me feel old (bad idea) Porche C2 - very nice but I am a famliy man and in need of seats in the back that can carry something more than just my tennis racket & gear. Finally, Test drove A6 4.2 Quatro. When I made the right turn going 40 with no breaks and the car did not skit and stuck to the road... That did it for me.

  • Switched from a Benz - 2003 Audi A6

Picked up the A6 2 weeks ago. The car is just flat out fun to drive the Quattro is like glue on wet and dry pavment. Has a Benz ML320- the go anywhere truck that was headache for 3 years The center of gravity is so much lower than any suv, it just is fun to accelerate into turns instead of braking. This is a drivers car in every sense of the word.

Involved in a very serious accident w/ A6 other car lost control, skid into me. (T-bone). Both cars, 50-55 MPH, were "totaled." Two occupants in the other car killed instantly. Wife and I are sore and aching, but no serious injuries. . The A6 crushed exactly as it was desgined. The entire front was demolished with everthing in back of the firewall in as good as new condition. The front doors even open and closed as if there had not been the collision.
