This Year's Model Updates:

The RL is completely redesigned for 2005, and now sports a 300-horsepower V6 and standard all-wheel drive.

Pros:
  • Quiet cabin, handles well for a large sedan, excellent build and materials quality, unique all-wheel-drive system, innovative navigation system offers real-time traffic information.
Cons:
  • Lacks the low-end grunt of a V8, still lacks the prestige of its European competition.

  • First rate car - fun to drive - 2005 Acura RL

Audio is first class with superior sound. Speed, cornering, braking is excellent. Comfortable seating with ease of locating dials and knobs to operate this vehicle. Hands free phone linking along with a superb GPS system. Overall this is the car of the year. Well done Acura, you guys have exceeded my highest expectations.

The Acura may not be able to out perform European competitors such as Jaguar, Mercedes, and BMW, but remember it is only a V6. The Acura is really in need of a V8 that can offer much more performance as its competitors. For a V6 though it outperforms many cars.

I picked up the car and at once felt comfortable and secure. On the highway home was at 80 MPH and didnt feel a thing. Handles like a dream and on curves the SHAWD is GREAT. Learning the voice commands takes a little time but worht it . Best car in the market segment for the money.

This is what the flagship of the brand should be like. Great car to ride or drive. Great traffic information and sound system. An A+++. Cannot say enough.

  • Love it - 2005 Acura RL

Love everything, the car is not perfect - but it is very close. It is not super sporty - but then it is not meant to be. It is a well-rounded, safe, comfortable luxury sedan with an excellent stereo. (Not a kid’s boom box – instead high quality sound is stressed.) Love the AWD in the winter, can do amazing things with the VSA turned off, or ultra safe with it on.

  • So close, but still great - 2005 Acura RL

A great overall car. Trunk is a bit small and I wish the rear seat folded down since space is already limited, but it is what it is. I cant understand why the radio cant display the CD (especially a DVD-A) info with song names, etc. And the FM RDS which is pretty standard nowadays is also missing....hmmmm? Oh, and why the heck did Acura change the lug and hub pattern of this car so that I cant get any aftermarket rims until the wheel manufacturers catch up to the new layout.... But, overall, I love the car. I guess nothing is perfect.

Not only does the Acura RL do what I expected but it exceeds my expectations in just about every catagory. It accelerates faster, corners better, is more striking inside and out than I ever imagined. With all these pluses, after putting in synthetic oil, I now get nearly 28 mpg highway. Not bad for a car that goes from 0-60 in 6 seconds. Also, just wait until you get to Dallas/Ft Worth or one of 20 or so more covered metro areas and the nav system interacts with XM radio to reroute you around bottlenecks on the major highways. Out of sight!!!!!

  • Like driving a Music Room - 2005 Acura RL

I moved from a 2000 A6 to the RL. The A6 may be a little tighter in handling but this is the best car I have ever owned in terms of value, handling, safety features, power, and above all the interior. The music system is like none I have ever heard. I think I may sleep in the seats and just listen to DVD-As all night. Handling in the snow in New Hampshire was fabulous with the standard all season tires.

  • This Car Rocks! - 2005 Acura RL

Smooth ride, beautiful and well designed interior, user friendly, wand entry, no key to start car, driver memory remembers XM channels as well as seat adjustment. ROCK ON.

  • Solid Buy - 2005 Acura RL

First automatic in 35 years (last car was BMW 528). Shift paddles are good, but would prefer clutch and a good six-speed. That said, this is a fine, fine car. Handles very well at speed. Put 6500 miles on it in first two months without a complaint. Fit and finish are superb.
