This Year's Model Updates:

The Volvo V70 has been redesigned for 2001. Major changes include a new body structure, fresh styling, a revised interior and upgraded feature content. Safety figures prominently with the new V70 (as usual), but it is also more sporting than before, especially in T5 trim.

Pros:
  • Superb comfort, plenty of safety equipment, solid construction and amazing braking ability.
Cons:
  • High price, odd control placement.

I thought Volvos were better cars. You know, Sweden has harsh weather and terrain, so the vehicles produced there should be appropriately durable. maybe they have that public health care thing for cars also. yes, add me to the list of casualties. I bought my V70 XC last year and have had nothing but problems. Transmission was jerky so I took it to the dealer, only to have it reflashed with no improvement. While there, they discovered bad trans and engine mounts, leaking angle drive and several broken suspension components. This is in addition to the $2000 scheduled maintenance, adding up to almost what I paid for this vehicle. The service and repair history I requested was 34 pages!

I am happy with my V70 T5. Only a few minor problems. Drives great. Has a sporty suspension feel.

Bought this car new for my wife, she now says after 2 years she going to keep it. The door handles are ugly with fake wood with black coming. It drips oil on my garage floor also leaks transmission fluid. Drivers seat wouldnt move that was fun!!! Window on the passenger side would sometimes does not roll-up. We have replaced all the bulbs in the car at least once! Now a $34 turn signal on the side needs replacing. Now it has the brake light come on - dealer cant fix it. We have about 28k miles on it and was hoping to keep it for 10 years like all people who drive Volvos say they should last.

I have driven this car in snow, rain, ice, and the deserts of AZ and nothing has slowed it down. I even drove it up a running river (not very deep) on a camping trip once. It holds my mtn bike if I fold the seats down, and Ive slept in it a few times too. Yeah, its a bit expensive to service and I think its a little funny looking but I couldnt be much happier with a wagon! Just be sure to stay up on your maintenance because its way cheaper than repairing something once it breaks.

I had heard a lot about Volvos but never driven one. We saw this V7-T5 today in the lot and knew that second..this is the car we need. We test drove ...it was great...the leather, gps, sunroof...the works. The car feels quality..inside/out..and when we got the Carfax report...and it says..the car was imported directly from Sweden..that sold us... Great buy...we traded my 2001 Intrepid...with 140k miles..

  • Volvo rocks! - 2001 Volvo V70

Volvos have been produced by swedish engineers whose soul purpose was to make a vehicle that would ultimately save your life. That was over 2 decades ago, since then they have layered comfort, reliability, handling, practicality and power upon the one thing that singles out Volvo from the rest: your Safety. The Volvo xc-70 turbo brought volvo into a dimension of automobile ingenuity. Riding this car in about a foot of powder in Utah, I almost felt as if I were on a snowmobile. Stopping short in snow, I wouldnt slide for more than a foot (at speeds of 20-40 mph). Lets not forget about its 220hp that leaves most sports cars in the dust! Volvo rocks!

  • Im happy, its not that bad! - 2001 Volvo V70

Wow! After reading the poor reviews of the 2001 XC 70, I had to let everyone know about my good experience. Ive owned Volvos and my parents have owned Volvos for many decades. I purchased this car for the turbo and carrying capacity. Ive been pleased. I bought it at 75,000 mi and now its at 100K. Ive kept up with the maintenance, which has been a bit more expensive than my sedans, but I have not experienced the transmission issues nor electronic issues that are posted on this site. Issues have been: alternator, 1 software update, transmission flush, cam seal leak, and common maintenance. There will always be the bad stories that are reported first. Im happy with my car.

Contrary to the various negative reviews, my Volvo XC has been a joy to own! Very comfortable, safe, great AWD in the snow - and a joy to drive! Repairs have been minimal over my 7 years of ownership.

  • Problem free - 2001 Volvo V70
    By -

Best car Ive ever owned. Superb for long trips. The only problem I have had is that the radio wont keep its settings. Others complain about headlight life, but mine were upgraded as part of a recall and have been trouble free. The interior has held up very well and people still complement the exterior styling. Obtain 22 mpg in mixed driving, 26+ on the highway. Replaced tires at 43,000 miles.
