This Year's Model Updates:

Volvo's 850 wagon gets a new name, new nose, body-color trim, stronger side-impact protection, more powerful turbo engines, redesigned interior and revised suspension. All-wheel-drive versions arrive to battle luxury SUVs.

Pros:
  • Front and side airbags. Excellent side-impact protection. Superb seats. Solid construction. More cargo volume than many sport-utilities. Available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Oddly placed controls. No all-speed traction control system available.

Less than one day after my purchase of an ultra clean silver v70 wagon with 135k and just a few obvious repairs needed. We paid 4995 less 1750 bucks for my somewhat hated kia rio 5 speed no power steering car that I bought new 9 years ago. The mixed reviews tell me I am in for some costly repairs but until then this car seems better for not too much money spent. Also the car insures for much less (60.00 a month full coverage) because of its high safety rating. Well see I guess

  • Drives great, especially to repair shop - 1998 Volvo V70

Love driving this car - in any weather. Seats are terrific and adjust to any position. Performance - esp. handling - is very good (and I have had Audis and a Porsche before). Just drove 3500 miles on vacation and was rarely uncomfortable. Echoing some other reviews, trips to Volvo repair are WAY too frequent and very expensive. Eats brakes ($1k for all 4) and turn signal bulbs. Front susp supports replaced on both sides ($750 per side), generator, air pump, weld a door hinge ($500 each), its endless. Fuel usage around 17mpg in city but about 28 on hwy.

This is my 2nd Volvo. I love how it drives. Powerful, very comfortable. Ive owned this car for 4 yrs and 6 days, just out of warranty. The worst problems have been the brakes, needs new brakes every 15-20K (unlike my other Volvo), a complete AC compressor replacement, a broken electric seat. Most annoying, the Check Engine light on if the gas cap is not replaced properly. The dealer needs to reset the computer when this happens. Im 6 days past my warranty and the Check Engine light is on. If it isnt the gas cap, is the dealer willing to help? No. Im afraid most of my dissatifaction is the dealer. Im trading for better service. If your city has only one Volvo dealer, beware.
