This Year's Model Updates:

The Volvo V70 has been redesigned for 2001. Major changes include a new body structure, fresh styling, a revised interior and upgraded feature content. Safety figures prominently with the new V70 (as usual), but it is also more sporting than before, especially in T5 trim.

Pros:
  • Superb comfort, plenty of safety equipment, solid construction and amazing braking ability.
Cons:
  • High price, odd control placement.

  • Great Family Car - 2001 Volvo V70

Wouldnt recommend this non-turbo version. It is underpowered if you do a lot of travelling. Good city/short mileage car. Solid, no problems. Most room for a wagon youll find.

  • My next car will be another XC70! - 2001 Volvo V70

I had heard about other bad experiences with Volvo but really wanted this wagon instead of an SUV. I have had no problems in over a year (except for headlights which every time my dealership has replaced within 5 minutes and given me for free). This car drives like a dream in the city and is awesome on long car trips. I do not get the kind of mileage the reviews say (18 city, 25 hwy) I average 21.7 in the city and over 26 on the highway! Way to go Volvo!

  • Love this wagon! - 2001 Volvo V70

I bought the Volvo after driving guzzlers -- a Suburban and a Sequoia. What sold me, however, was the built in booster seats for my kiddos. (They can get in and out and buckle all by themselves now, and no more lugging around big booster seats!) It is very smooth, quick and super in the rain. My brakes squeak because the dealer replaced them when I bought them with cheaper ones than volvo would have. My husband, who is an SUV man, actually loves driving this car.

  • Not reliable any longer - 2001 Volvo V70

When my husband passed I needed a reliable car. I purchased a used XCV70Turbo in June 2004. I have driven Volvos for 30 years, 7 new and this one used. I felt confident I had a dependable vehicle. The car performed well until February 2007 when the engine began missing and stalling. My dealer said the engine has failed and is ruined. It is still under warranty but the warranty company refuses to honor it. The car has 75,000 miles on it. I now have no car and it will cost me several thousand to just get it off my hands - I still owe more than the dealer will give me even for a trade in. I will not be throwing this kind of money at Volvo ever again. Sad ending to a long friendship w Volvo.

  • Best of Three - 2001 Volvo V70
    By -

My third Volvo wagon has been the best. The turbo engine responds well in a pinch, with no problems in 2 1/2 years. Very caring service experience with loaner cars a real plus for a one car family. Very quiet on the road, with excellent stability and of course, those wonderful seats.

  • 01 V70 T5 - Thumbs Up! - 2001 Volvo V70
    By -

New to the Volvo world but my brother has owned three, including his current 02 V70. Just brought home our 01 T5 last month; its a well-maintained 2-owner w. 95k mi. Ive owned various BMWs, Jaguars, VWs, etc. & this Volvo compares very well. From the interior & exterior design to the performance & fun of driving, the car has an overall feel of real quality & thoughtful engineering. As preventative maintenance, I changed the timing belt (incl. tensioner & pulley) & water pump after the purchase; also put in a new cabin air filter. The 01 V70 sometimes gets a bad rap, but I suspect thats at least as much owner issues as the car itself. Thumbs up on a great car, especially the T5.

  • Whats with the whining? Awesome Car! - 2001 Volvo V70
    By -

Replaced 92 945T with over 226K + original turbo......this car ROCKS! Fast, luxurious, SAFE, great mileage, and hauls 2 toddlers, the two big dogs qucikly, in comfort. Factory stereo jams. OK, I had ONE bulb replaced (theyre FREE so what?). NO other problems whatsoever and I drive fast, cruise at 80 mph get 25 mpg....These other people whining about tires lasting 20K (Z rated 17 inch, what do you want, they handle great), sidewall bubbles are caused by bashing into objects with too low air pressure (try 38 psi all around), maintenance costs are cheap, Mobil 1 oil change every 5K...love our car!

  • Nearing Perfection - 2001 Volvo V70
    By -

I would argue that no car is perfect... yet the new Volvo wagon is nearing the unattainable. I have been driving my T5 for twenty-one months, and simply adore it. My recommendations to anyone considering the V70 wagon would be as follows: 1) Get the turbo. I see people in my rear view mirror with their jaw in their lap as I pull away from a red light. This car is fast. 2) Get the 17" Pirelli tires. Im not one for tricked out cars, but these make the car look HOT and keep you on the road. Thats about it. I cant wait to upgrade to the new wagon, due out in a year or so with an even bigger engine. Someone at Volvo needs a nice pat on the back!!!

  • Going Strong at 160K - 2001 Volvo V70
    By -

Now at 160K with no problems. New tires and preventive care is all this volvo has asked for 8 years. Very fun and comfortable ride with the 2.4turbo and luxury cabin. Besides family of five chores and vacations, we take this volvo antiquing and regularly treat it like a truck. On the highway we get 28-30mpg on regular grade fuel.

  • Impressed - 2001 Volvo V70
    By -

When I was shopping for a new vehicle I looked at the RX300, X5,MDX, ML320 and even the Yukon by GMC. But for some reason I liked the look and comfort of the XC, so thats what I purchase. Let me tell everyone out there after reading some horror stories on the net as well as good ones I was a bit nervous. But the car is solid and probably the most comfortable to sit in. No problems at all!
