This Year's Model Updates:

The Volvo V70 has been redesigned for 2001. Major changes include a new body structure, fresh styling, a revised interior and upgraded feature content. Safety figures prominently with the new V70 (as usual), but it is also more sporting than before, especially in T5 trim.

Pros:
  • Superb comfort, plenty of safety equipment, solid construction and amazing braking ability.
Cons:
  • High price, odd control placement.

First volvo ever owned, bought it for safety and comfort, performance pretty good, would like to see more storage space for front cabin. had some minor issues with the remote entry was fixed under warranty, great service dept at Turner Volvo. had to replace several light bulbs the past few months. have owned vehicle for three years, thinking up upgrading to XC90 for more space for the family. the tire noise has become very noisy at highway speeds.

Beautiful car, quality interior materials and exterior fit and finish. Outstanding fuel economy and extended range comfort and utility. Difficult radio set up, bulky A- pillars and out of place cheap plastic touches. The ride is detached for cars in this price range, light bulbs blow more often than you need fuel. The tranny went at 30K forcing an extended warranty purchase. Local Volvo dealer provides exceptional service at a price you would expect with this class of car. The car is far too noisey for this class. With 100k just around the corner a new Volvo is not out of the question although better cars in this price range exist.

  • Best Car Ill ever own - 2001 Volvo V70

I paid more for my 2001 V70 2.3 (manual trannie(but with just about every extra available) than I ever had for anything - 20K with 37K miles. It just turned 240,000 and has gotten me from NYC to Merida, L.A., Portland, New Orleans (yearly), Florida you name it - snow, ice, rain & wind, in great comfort, style and if I could figure out how to keep this car for the rest of my life Id do it. It aint cheap but youve gotta find great (not dealer) mechanics and sometimes buy your own parts online. I do understand the auto trannie in these first years sucked and have friends with those problems, but otherwise *****

  • AS EXPECTED AND BETTER! - 2001 Volvo V70

First, after much review perhaps the XC models have far more problems than the 2.4T V70. I am at 124,000 and this car is the most comfortable, reliable and all around best car to drive. I also own a 2008 Audi A4, and although the Audi is the prize, I lean more toward driving the Volvo ALL THE TIME! The only issue I had was the radiator modulator going bad, which ran me about 575 dollars and only because my friend is a mechanic! Volvo would have easily been a 1000 plus job! But you know the parts are pricey, find a trusting local guy or do the regular maintenence yourself, it pays! That said I commute just shy of 90 miles a day and this car runs so smooth it is a pure joy. Also good on gas!

  • Great Choice for the family - 2001 Volvo V70

I had heard a lot about Volvos but never driven one. We saw this V7-T5 today in the lot and knew that second..this is the car we need. We test drove ...it was great...the leather, gps, sunroof...the works. The car feels quality..inside/out..and when we got the Carfax report...and it says..the car was imported directly from Sweden..that sold us... Great buy...we traded my 2001 Intrepid...with 140k miles..

  • Im happy, its not that bad! - 2001 Volvo V70

Wow! After reading the poor reviews of the 2001 XC 70, I had to let everyone know about my good experience. Ive owned Volvos and my parents have owned Volvos for many decades. I purchased this car for the turbo and carrying capacity. Ive been pleased. I bought it at 75,000 mi and now its at 100K. Ive kept up with the maintenance, which has been a bit more expensive than my sedans, but I have not experienced the transmission issues nor electronic issues that are posted on this site. Issues have been: alternator, 1 software update, transmission flush, cam seal leak, and common maintenance. There will always be the bad stories that are reported first. Im happy with my car.

  • Drives like a car, totes like a UTE - 2001 Volvo V70

Volvos are, like most European cars for people who like to drive. Despite being needlessly burdened with a 4wd system, riding 3" too high , and having 300lbs of extra weight, this car actually handles competently. I do my own work on the car so repair costs arent really an issue but if you had to have it worked on it would be pretty expensive to maintain properly. It is certainly more expensive to run than a Kia Sorento which is because it is not a Kia Sorento. I like the fact that everything is heavy duty, even the leather on the seats is surprisingly thick.

On Nov. 03 of 2001, my wife and I purchased or second Volvo. The first was a new 1988 740 Turbo (which still runs as well as the day we drove it home). As the 88 was approaching 14 years of age, we thought that a newer vehicle should transport both my wife and son. My wife spotted her soon-to- be-new car on the dealers lot of Bozzani Volvo (Covina, CA) when, one day she dropped the 88 740 off for its usual servicing. As she was walking through the lot, she spotted the 2001 Cross Country (dark blue) and, in short, the rest is history. To those who report that the Volvo is the next best thing to a tank, we agree.
