  This is a really wonderful machine - 1998 Volvo V70

  Having enjoyed driving a 1981 245, a 1989 740, and a 1991 745, Ive come to realize that each was a really great machine for me and my family at the time we owned them. Miss the ruggedness of the 245, but dont need that now; prefer the smoother ground-hugging capability of the V70 AWD. Lots of things I could do with the 245 that I dont need to do any more....and couldnt in the V70 if I wanted to. Are Volvos safe? Well, my son totalled my 740 and my daughter totalled the 745, and theyre each here to tell the tale....though no longer behind the wheel of anything I own and off my insurance!

  This is my 4th Volvo and it is definitely a "love/hate" relationship. When all is good, I love it. Its the most comfortable car Ive ever owned. The heated seats are sublime on a cold Colorado morning. But just too many small problems that indicate poor design and engineering. Ive replaced, engine mounts, suspension, brake rotors, check engine lights, turbo seals, and am holding my breath now that my extended warranty has expired. Ill keep it as long as it doesnt get too expensive, then Ill probably jump to an Audi or maybe a good ole dependable Subaru! Too bad for Volvo, I think we all want to stick with them, but they just seem to have lost their focus.

  I bought my Volvo V70 as a minivan alternative - with the 3rd seat option it can seat 7. Its wonderful. Its a luxury car with a great sound system, powerful brakes and sits so smoothly on the road that I wonder how Ill ever be able to drive a cheap car again. Best of all, I know that my family is safe.

  Worth every penny I paid for it. As for lowered rating for reliability (9), its due to the window that got stuck and was replaced (for free - it was still under warranty) with the motor, guides, and everything that goes with it. No other problem whatsoever.

  This V70GLT is the first sold in US, March 97. I have had one problem with this car. The dealerships have seen this car only once for an ABS sensor.

  We bought the v70 GLT used several months ago with 55k miles, and are very pleased with the car. Very solid construction, no rattles or squeeks. Good acceleration, crisp handling, and great brakes. With routine maintenance, should be good for 200K+ miles, just like the 740 we had.

  This is my first hands on experience with V70 XC. I have heard and read a lot about its safety, comfort and reliability, but once you drive one, its a different experience. It is not as speedy and powerful as a mustang or as luxury as Lexus, but safe enough for those long trips or unexpected weather changes. Very easy to handle and safe with cornering. Its heavy enough to notice a smooth ride with out that road noise you would hear in most of the cars. I think I will keep this one for a while or trade it in for a newer one.

  Great car inside and out. Very reilable vehicle with only standard maintenance items(e.g. brakes, tires). Excellent power plant and fun to drive - my wife loves it; she takes it on weekends and I get the minivan! Comfort, fuel economy, reliability, classic styling make this my favorite car so far . . . . though I still miss my 1986 760 Turbo wagon. One great car after another, and the walnut trim inside against the tan leather completes the look, comfort and feel of this great wagon. If I had to do it again, Id have bought this one sooner.

  This car handles unbelievably well. The 0 to go pick up is unmatched. We have two children and it is the perfect family car. On the highway, for long family trips, it gets very good gas mileage for as much power as it has. Overall, I am very pleased and definitly satisfied ith this car.

  We bought a certified used car from a dealer. It is a solid, well-built car, rattle free at 59,000 miles. Good acceleration, quiet cabin, good emergency handling, and great seats. More safety features than most cars.
