Too many electrical problems - 1998 Volvo S70
By kesh - January 18 - 10:00 amI liked the car at first but has been too unreliable. I had a battery replaced after 2.5 yrs and the new one went out again yesterday after 1 year only. I have had two door locks go out and multiple electrical parts replaced after the warranty expired. Volvos are very expensive to fix and costs have added up quickly. It seems like I have to take it in to be serviced every few months for one problem or another. Bought it for safety reasons and friends suggestion but never again. I will stick with a Japanese luxury next time.

if u can buy it you can afford to fix it - 1998 Volvo S70
By LUVMYVOLVO - October 2 - 10:00 amJust purchased very high mileage Volvo S70 GLT. 156000 mile on a 1998. Got a great deal. Volvos can go on for ever with a little bit of TLC. Encountered some minor power window problems and some instrument lights were out. Over all the car still drives like new. Repairs included-New stutts and mountings, one tire, balancing and alleignment--$750.00

Volvo S70 T5 - 1998 Volvo S70
By wf - May 14 - 7:00 pmOverall solid car. Fast runner. For a sedan, the Turbo really screams. Front tire traction becomes a little unsteady under extreme acceleration. Good in the snow. Looking at other reviews, had some similar problems, frequent bulb changes, leather door panels bubbled, some minor engine sensors replaced, lot of front wheel brake dust, wheel rim quality could be better, leather steering wheel gets gummed up easily. Front air dam is too low for most parking lots, gets damaged easily.

No resale value!! - 1998 Volvo S70
By DaveM - April 19 - 2:00 amBesides the umpteen problems with the turn signals and burned out headlights (and door panels and serpentine belts and tires), weve loved this car. But the ABS sensor light is on ($1600), the A/C is out (AGAIN - $2100), and its time to return to a Toyota. Unfortunately, it is worth only $6000 trade in...absolutely ridiculous. Volvo, youre way overrated.

Why the misfire?! - 1998 Volvo S70
By Danny - March 26 - 11:13 amI bought the T5 turbo because its a fast, sturdy and relatively inexpensive car (70k miles for $6900). However, as soon as I floored the gas I discovered it had a misfire problem. I tried fixing the problem myself. I replaced all its Bosch "super" sparkplugs with Denso Iridium, the misfire would not go away. I replaced the rotor and distributor cap, misfire still would not go away. The cursed intermittent misfire in cylinder 5 occurs only when I give it the beans, otherwise it rides very well. The leather seems to be pretty sub-par quality as do the brakes. Be ready to give your S70 some maintenance. Oh and my rear taillight goes out a candle in the wind.

Great, solid, safe choice - 1998 Volvo S70
By david Atkins - March 10 - 8:40 pmBought it used with about 8000 miles on it got it checked out to make sure it hadnt been in any accidents they said it was clean but then the radiator started to sag! The guy who fixed it said that the car had hit something hard before we got it. It is a solid, safe, responsive car. I would recommend a Volvo to anyone! It does not at all seem like an 8 year old car at all! We only have had normal wear problems with this car and a few small electrical problems

S70 Great Car - 1998 Volvo S70
By MSD - January 13 - 10:00 amVolvos S70 has provided me with excellent service. Maintaining the car according to mfrs suggestions will result in many trouble free miles of driving. The only negative was the frequency of bulbs burning out. Volvo corrected the problem but only after a couple of years of complaints. Everthing else has been trouble free. Great highway car.

Volvo has lost a customer! - 1998 Volvo S70
By goodleto - April 11 - 10:00 amWhen took delivery, one door wouldnt open because the door lock was broken. Since then, the car has had numerous headlight replacements; the headlight on/off switch has failed; the ashtray retaining clip broke (neither of us are smokers and dont use the ashtray); the heating coil cracked, spilling coolant inside the car; all of the door gaskets have been removed, reinstalled, and finally glued in; the taillight assembly has been repaired twice and replaced; the cruise control has failed; the retaining clips for the under dash trim panel have broken; the steering column trim clips have broken and separated; and the air conditioner has failed.

Volvo S70 1998 STD - 1998 Volvo S70
By Etienne - January 17 - 11:46 pmThe car is smooth and its very quiet on the road. I think it drinks a lot, but its powerful, very very safe and its very well designed. The build quality is good.
