How does it rank with previous 760 - 1998 Volvo S70
By C. E. Pattereson - October 17 - 10:00 amI like the car. It seems to perform well. It has a tight body, and the motor runs well.

Last of the Originals - 1999 Volvo S70
By Dan - October 2 - 11:16 amThis is the last of the all-Swedish Volvo, and the turbo and AWD make for an impressive package. I believe this car got lost in the confusion over Ford sale. Agree with many of the past reviews, but the turbo really does give impressive performance to what is a somewhat heavy car. Handling is sure no sports car but not bad either. I bought the car new, then transferred to my mom, who still has it, so we have a good perspective, and the car runs well at 80k miles. On the other hand, the car is noisier than it should be at highway speeds and engine vibration is noticible.

My first volvo - 1998 Volvo S70
By jamesg1970 - September 16 - 4:20 amI made my purchase on the 98 S70 t-5 in nov 2001. I am pleased with the overall reliability, but now at 60k miles I am noting some glitches. The Glitches at 60k: a slow oil leak, one electronic window button has stopped working, the leather on the doors is breaking down, the leather has become easier to scratch (even if conditioned every 60 days), the headlamps and front plastic signal covers crack easy, the brake calipers have never performed to my liking, and the Alternator was replaced at 50k.

Great Car! - 1998 Volvo S70
By K - August 25 - 3:43 pmThis is my first car and I have had it for almost 2 years. It has been great to me, Ive driven it for about 25,000 miles and it has been great. Only issue was it overheated due to my ignorance of not knowing what coolant was and what it did and drove it like a goof and put $400 down the drain.

No repairs, no complaints! - 1998 Volvo S70
By mrbean - August 18 - 10:00 amBought used S70 in 1998 and still driving it. Plan to keep it until it falls apart, but doesnt look like that will happen anytime soon. Has 95,000 miles currently, and has never had one repair - yes, you read correctly - zero repairs. I take it to the dealer every 5,000 miles religiously for factory recommended maintenance. I wonder how many of the other drivers who are experiencing problems have the factory recommended maintenance performed. By the way, the same day I bought my second Volvo, I met a lady customer at the dealership who was also purchasing a new S70 the same day-she traded in a 10 year old Volvo with 265,000 miles on it. Interesting...

Trouble!!! - 1998 Volvo S70
By jsun - August 18 - 2:00 amI bought this car used with 50000 miles on it. I thought it had a good reliability rating, boy I was wrong!!! I had a rear seal leak, a axle leak, the a/c started leaking and it ran hot on me and the needle would not go back to cold. I had a 1985 Mercedes 300D Turbo diesel with 230000 miles that I would drive a long distance before I would trust this junker. I traded it for a new Mercury Sable LS Premium...Maybe it will give me better service.

If you buy the T5 model, you are in for a SURPRISE - 2000 Volvo S70
By logan_sully - July 21 - 9:41 pmIll say this..when I started looking into buying a Volvo..I wasnt expecting a speedster. Then I found this gem- a 1999 Volvo S70 T5, mother of god..this thing goes. I mean IT GOES. I am completely blown away about how fast this car goes. No one expects it. Its also very luxurious (very nice leather seating, wonderful sound system, heated seats)

Faulty Armrests - 1998 Volvo S70
By Houston Fwy driver - July 19 - 10:00 am60 days after purchase (8/02), I noticed that the armrest vinyl on three of the four doors was "bubbling" "delaminating" and otherwise separating from the armrest. Despite being a "certified pre-owned" car, neither the dealer nor the corp. will touch this obvious and apparently known defect in materials/manufacturing in this otherwise excellent car. As a 15-year customer, I want to remain loyal, but I will likely switch brands next time around.

1999 Red Volvo S70, aka. Cherry Bomb - 1999 Volvo S70
By DC Volvo Driver - July 15 - 10:00 amI normally wouldnt do a review, but seeing how this had such a high rating...I had to speak up. I bought this car back in September and Ive had nothing but problems. So far Ive replaced the Mass Air Flow sensor, power steering pump and hoses, rear stablizer, part of the dashboard, rubber stripping on windshield, sensor lights going off all the time....I do a little prayer everytime I get in the car that nothing will malfunction. I will say its a nice shade of red, and is a smooth ride when all is working well...

Its been fun.. - 1998 Volvo S70
By Bo - July 6 - 10:36 pmI brought mine at 85k miles. There have been a few bumps in maintance. On multiple trips to Canada, the T5 drove like a champ, surprising power, good fuel economy. But the gliches, the speed sensors (no abs, no odometer, no speedo)evap system replacement. Brakes that sound like a bus. Not too cheap to own if your are not handy. But it is fun to drive. Okay in driving about town, but a hoot on the highway. Currently at 130k, and holding on.
