I had it for about two years and so far, i had to replace the header, the catalytic converter twice, O2 sensor, the starter, a CV axle and a head lamp wiper motor. It is a some-what easy car to work on and I would be willing to try my luck with another in the future.

Solid, reliable car with no perks. Its never quit on me, but that darn check engine light has been on nearly the whole time Ive had the car. Apparently Im not the only one this happens to. Timeless, classic style holds up well, and the 10yr old interior still looks like new. Nice trunk space and good room for 4 Americans(I think you know what I mean). Its not called "The Brick" for nothing.

This car is off the hook. When you click sport mode and hit the gas POWER POWER. I love racing this poeple with audis mustangs Grand prix GTPs. They all think that volvos are slow yet they dont know about the 8.6Psi turbo charger under the hood. The turbo charger is the heart and sole to to the 850 turbo model. It just loves to sip on oil.

Safest car Ive ever been in--and it feels that way too. Some electrical problems early on, but the dealer fixed them under warranty. Extremely comfortable ride, well laid-out interior.

Always wanted a Volvo; finally got one! My 850GLT is the cats meow. Wouldnt mind parts costing less and more repair facilities willing to work on Volvos. My Volvo is mint condition and gives me the luxury ride I like for half the price of most alike competitors. Would gladly buy Volvo again!

Have enjoyed everything about R! Great acceleration, handling good for sedan. Been smacked 3 times by poor drivers....great protection, never close to injury! Safety plus. Seats are best...cannot stand other luxury seats..especially for long trip, replaced radio xx 3 (all on warranty.) A/C fine for 6 years, then leak in heater coil. Ride harsher than GLT sedan, but wouldnt trade ddue to other features. Love it at 207K miles....hate the "soft" 17 inch wheels, bend...but saved life once so....! Cannot find a replacement with all features I like ...keep it til 300K or 400K.

  • Volvo 850R Wagon - 1996 Volvo 850

We bought our R Wagon used with 49K miles. After looking for Volvo turbo and non wagons, the R was a find. I figured if we were going to drive a wagon, it would be a bad ass one. Only complaint are amount of rattles which cannot completely be blamed on wheel and tire package as other Volvos in our family were known to rattle. Its blast to drive around and a great highway cruiser. Passes at the blip of the throttle, brakes are strong and handles like its smaller and lighter than it is.

Bought this car new. Wife drove it for over ten years. My daughter has just gotten her license and is using the car. The only thing that makes this car seem old is when I drive my S-60. Aside from normal maintenance over the years, we have only had two out of warranty issues( 1- broken caliper 2- external thermometer which regulates the heating & A/C). I also use my local dealer for all service, which I believe has kept repairs to a minimum. My family is sold on Volvo cars.

Amazing car. A car 10 yrs old and its still going very strong. I tell you, if you buy an 850 that was well kept...you will be rewarded.

When I first bought a Volvo I thought I was buying quality. Little did I know that I was going to be taking my car into the shop every 6 months for major repairs. Problems have been crank shaft main seal (2), AC (4), stereo, front bearings, exterior weather trim and these repairs dont include the regular maintance like brakes and strunts. Ive had Japanese cars that were much older and drove them to the ground. After this experience I will diffinitely go back to Japanese cars. I bought my Volvo at 40,000 miles which is considered new to Volvo but the problems are one after an other.
