Overview & Reviews
The Touareg's standard V6 engine goes from 220 hp to 240 hp. The optional navigation system will change from CD-based to DVD-based later in the model year. The formerly standard tire-pressure monitoring system is now optional, and satellite radio is available across the board. A self-dimming rearview mirror debuts this year, along with newly styled 18-inch alloy wheels.
- Upscale interior, polished road manners, true off-road capability, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
- Lousy fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

Great buy! - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By fjl-v - December 1 - 7:43 pmWas lucky enough to buy a 2005 V6 with only 8000 miles, now up to 12000 miles. Free of any problems so far. I love to drive it; it is luxurious with a quiet ride, has an impeccable interior, great handling, feels solid and very safe, definitely underpowered with the v6, recommend driving in the S mode, transmission and shifting is great, heavy and poor acceleration especially when compared with my 2006 X3. The stereo system is disappointing at any volume above 21 (especially the bass). If economy is not your concern, buy the V8 or V10 diesel version.

Extensive repair time - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By charles gill - November 18 - 9:36 amI have had two instances of extended repair time due to lack of parts. The first, two weeks, was due to an air bag fault. Parts were not available. Six months later, another airbag fault, plus repeated fault warnings of various kinds, which disappeared after a short time. It was determined a new alternator was needed, Lowering the engine 6 inches was required to replace the alternator (2 day project). This did not fix the voltage problem and cables needed replacing. The cable need to be manufactured. I lost use of the car for over three weeks. I guess the cost of loaner vehicles is less than the cost of stocking parts. The low voltage, cable situation created the fault alerts.

Love My Touareg - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By Patty - November 16 - 2:36 amAll of my oil changes were done by the dealer & only cost $108. This car just spared me and my husband from more series injuries following a near head on crash. Other driver crossed center line. My husband swerved to the right to try & avoid the other car, but the driver still hit us / almost a T-Bone then slide the entire length down our car. Drivers side airbags deployed and spared my 67" husband from serious injury to his head & face. He still suffered 3 broke ribs though. We love our car.

As a Tow vehicle - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By Jim Quick - October 21 - 11:10 pmI tow a 31 travel trailer and have found the Touareg to be a excellent tow vehicle. The six speed transmission along with the 310HP V8 do a very good job, much better than the full size PU I was using before. Also better gas mileage than before.

VW Hits a Homerun - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By Jaime Mendez - August 16 - 8:53 amNot having owned an SUV before, I didnt know what to expect. Well, Volkswagen surpassed my expectations. This vehicle is a charmer inside and out. Everything about it feels sturdy, from the seats to the leather covered steering wheel. It has a smooth and quiet ride with very good visibility. This vehicle is a good value for your money.

Great SUV needs refinement - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By Giminetti - July 19 - 10:00 amA great all around performer. Good looks still turn heads, Impressive towing capacity, European sedan like ride, handling, and sound dampening. After looking for a solid vehicle that could tow my boat and be an every day driver, I couldnt find anything that came close.

Highway to mountains - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By clemmy - June 7 - 10:00 amI spent months looking for the perfect blend of "go any where ability, performance handling and speed, towing capacity (business expense), front leg room, and all with a luxury interior. No other vehicle comes close in the price range. The Touareg is every bit the vehicle as the Cheyene S for about $17,000 less. Cant wait to trade mine in for the V10 Diesel.

Couldve been great - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By SyrNY - January 10 - 1:26 pmI was initially very pleased with my Touareg, but poor reliability, $99 oil changes, and many many invasive warnings are starting to wear me down. Recalls and expensive maintenance aside, its actually the overengineering thats causing me the most frustration. The warnings are loud and intrusive. Pull into a parking lot and undo your seat belt to prepare for a meeting, and the warning beeps for 5 minutes every 30 seconds or so. Outside temp drops below 40, ding, low fuel, ding, tire pressue drops, ding. The range on the remote is also very poor. Just another nit pick, but all of these collective items make it very difficult to recommend this vehicle
