This Year's Model Updates:

The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features.

Pros:
  • Upscale interior, polished road manners, amazingly adept off-road, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
Cons:
  • Poor fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

  • 2004 Touareg - Heaven to Drive - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

I have had my Touareg for two years. I bought it slightly used. It is a V8 with most all the extras. This is the nicest most fun vehicle I have ever had. The ride, comfort and aesthetics are great. I love the radio especially with the Phatnoise system I added. The fuel economy is not great but in comparison with similarly powered vehicles it is on par with them. I initially had only some minor warranty covered issues but not major repair problems. It really drives like a dream. The Audi engine is very smooth and powerful.

  • Solid Performance, Superior Styling - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

I formerly owned a Honda CRV, but I wanted something more comfortable, more stylish and more upscale for the commute to work. I test drove all of the available models, with price being basically no object, and this was by far the best bet in balancing price and comfort. Its truly high-end on the interior, with great exterior styling, too.

  • If It Sounds Too Good... - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

If I had to do it all over again, I probably wouldnt. The Touareg sounded good and was comparably priced for the category it is in. I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle starting with tires wearing-out in less than 8,000 miles with no recourse from VW. My truck has been in the dealer for service numerous times. Two days ago it would not start and was stranded in my garage. VW roadside service came but could not tow it because the battery was dead, the key stuck in the ignition, and it was stuck in park. Ive had numerous campaign upgrades for many of the Touaregs computers. Several trouble lights announce with no solutions given in the owners manual.

  • Get Rid of It! - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

I just traded in my VW Touareg in on an Infiniti FX35. It was the best feeling in the world. Have owned six VWs since 1999. This will be our last! This truck was very unreliable. My dealer could/would not fix its problems. Mine had problems with the electrical system, tire pressure monitor, locking system, tow hook, etc... These are all that come to mind right now. Do not buy this truck, even a used one!

Just purchased my Touareg today and I have put 120 miles on it. Cant stop driving it. The way it hold the road is like my 01 Lincoln Ls that I traded in. If you are looking for the best Suv out STOP YOU HAVE FOUND IT!!!!

  • Better that Cayenne, $20K less - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
    By -

The Touareg with a Premium Plus Package (PPS) has a much nicer interior than the Porsche Cayenne. The air suspension allows for a very comfortable ride over frost heaved Midwest roads. A similarly priced Cayenne S was a very harsh ride (did not have air suspension)and did not have the luxury or features of the Touareg. Very pleased with the vehicle. Had to wait 2 months for delivery, as the factory made very few with Black exterior and Anthracite interior.

  • Think twice - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

We bought our Touareg in Nov 03 after looking at and test driving pretty much every SUV on the market. We liked the safety features of the Touareg and all the extras that came with it. My electrical problems started about 1 month after we bought it. My "check tire pressure" light would come on constantly. Dealership had to replace something, I guess this is a common problem with Touaregs. My car is in the shop now for the 2nd time because it just wont start. I have had to have AAA come out and jump it and take it to the dealer where so far they cannot find the cause. Something is drainign battery dont know what it is.

  • Touareg 04 - An Excellent Buy - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

This is a great Mid SUV with plenty of power (stick to the V8). You will not be diapointed. It drives like a sportscar with the features of an SUV. Most of the standard features you will never use but you get a sense of security that they are there. See suggested improvements for my concerns.
