This Year's Model Updates:

The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features.

Pros:
  • Upscale interior, polished road manners, amazingly adept off-road, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
Cons:
  • Poor fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

  • Drive one, youll be hooked! - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

I just purchased this car on Oct 11, 2003 and I couldnt be happier. My husband and I literally looked and drove 20 different SUVs. It came down to the MDX or the Touareg. And based on price and standard options the Touareg won hands down! Definetly go drive one!

Ive owned three SUVs (89 Bronco, 01 Pathfinder LE, and 03 Touareg) in the 12 years and neither of them comes close to this car. I can clearly see why this car won the Motor Trend car of the year. All of the standard features were enough, particularly at a relatively low base price (ie: Volvo XC90).

The 2004 Touareg is a very close to the Porsche, but for $16,000 less! Look at it this way you get a V-8 311 Hp. engine, heated memorie seats front and back, performace of a life time on- road, and off!, AWD 4 motion, dual climate control, and a pair of xeon lights with washers, for under $50,000! Did I mention it handles like a sports car, and has the abilitiy to beat any suv off road any day. PS: It pulls 7,900 pounds!

Great Interior, lots of toys with the Premium package. Radio is excellent. lacks back seat room. good cargo space, for future models I would expect a movable rear seat (available on the M class mercedes benz). the aftermarket rubber floor matts are a $99 must for bad weather cities or muddy children.

I have had my VW Touareg for almost 2 years now and has been truly a beautiful eye opener.

  • Been a great car for us - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

The car has the amenities of a luxury car, handles like a sports car, has the power of a muscle car, all with great off road capabilities. 100K+ miles and has never left us stranded. The body style doesnt show its age and still turns heads on the road. We live in the country and it has survived the gravel roads as an everyday driver for my wife. Its great for travel (other than the mileage) and gives a sense of safety and security no matter the driving conditions.

  • Best Value in its class - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Ive had it for about 60 days and 2000 miles and so far everything is great. I checked out the RX330, X5, and MDX and quickly narrowed it down to the X5 or Touareg. The VW was much less expensive and a comparable vehicle so thats what I went with.

It does everything but make you coffee in the morning. Changing gear in drive (as opposed to sport) is a bit sluggish, but comparable to most SUVs (exception being the Cayenne). Horsepower is a bit low for the V8, but understand they plan on a V10 Diesel, with improved hp and gas mileage (better then the V6). Versatility for off-road, highway travel, hazardous travel (like flooding after hurricane Isabel), and the everyday commute. Large enough to carry two dogs comfortably in the back (with seats down). Perfect size for the all around sportsman.

I had been waiting for it ever since car & driver rated it so high...it is all that and more

  • Awesome - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

I had tried over 10 SUVs. Surprisingly, I didnt fit in many. Granted I am a big guy, but SUVs should be able to fit larger people. Anyway, Im moving to the snow country and needed a vehicle that could get me around. After being disappointed with many test drives, I tried the Touareg. It was awesome – head and shoulders above the competition. This car is not a pretender like most of the SUVs made other manufactures. Given the standard features included, I decided to go with the base V8 (especially since I found one with a ski sack). I highly recommend anyone looking for a fully capable SUV to try a Touareg. Have fun and good luck with your search!
