This Year's Model Updates:

The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features.

Pros:
  • Upscale interior, polished road manners, amazingly adept off-road, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
Cons:
  • Poor fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

This car has grown on me everyday that Ive had it for the first week. Even with just the base model v6, its more vehicle than you could ask for. Quite the nice ride... inside and out! VW has put its mark on this one.

This car is fantastic. Got it for my wife, she loves it and I get it on the weekends. DO NOT BUY BMW, LEXUS, or ACURA -- this car is more stylish and has a better ride (AND CHEAPER) than the others.

Spent over 20 days in the shop first 2 mos. DONT BUY THIS SUV. Heres a list: Broken A.C.;broken stereo; door handles stick open;inside cargo hatch handle broke apart;clock above windshield malfunction;cruise control suddenly shuts off when towing; remote keychain adjusted 3times; loud noise coming from AC vent; MOST OF ALL the V8 has an "inherent" shaking problem they cant fix. You actually shake when sitting in the thing parked with the engine running. Absolutely unacceptable $46,000. VW already paid one of my car payments for the inconvenience. Its going back in the shop again for a squeaky steering wheel. Can you say class action lawsuit?

  • Lots of problems - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Apparrently it isnt a good idea to purchase a vehicle in its first year out? Headlights go out for no reason, tire pressure system keeps malfunctioning, hatchback/trunk keeps popping open. Have had it to the dealership many times with no success.

Ive owned about 8 other VWs over the years, and this may be the last. Reliability poor: transmission and running gear replaced. Tire pressure warning system erratic. Eats tires (replaced at 18K). Gas mileage is very poor. Very complex car, lots of electronics, much to go wrong. If you buy this car, be sure to purchase an extended warranty

To start with I love this truck! I tis a great design good to drive. The reason for this review is the total lack of any sort of reliability with the unit. Brakes @ $850.00 per axcel I have replace 7 times. Tires maybe 25000 on a good set. Electrical system is absolutely the worst I have ever dealt with. Drive Train, hads to replace the drive shaft linkage at 34500 and the factory wouldnt cover the cost to repair. I cannot tell you how much this vehicle has cost me to own. Never again... Watch Out!

This is by far the greatest SUV on the market. Customer service is wonderful too!

  • Luxury in a VW? - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

With the touareg, VW has arrived. The touareg is the only suv Ive owned that I look forward to driving. For the money, its superior to the X5, ML430, RX330, GX470. I have the V8 model and it has great performance and sound from the exhaust. Its every bit as luxurious as my Audi A8. The future looks bright for VW.
