Overview & Reviews
The Touareg's standard V6 engine goes from 220 hp to 240 hp. The optional navigation system will change from CD-based to DVD-based later in the model year. The formerly standard tire-pressure monitoring system is now optional, and satellite radio is available across the board. A self-dimming rearview mirror debuts this year, along with newly styled 18-inch alloy wheels.
- Upscale interior, polished road manners, true off-road capability, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
- Lousy fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

GREAT IS THE ONLY WORD TO USE - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By Sullymfmdoc - January 3 - 10:16 pmI have owned a load of SUVs and this one is the best. Fun to drive, safe, although not greatest at the pump, this car will impress you as well as thrill you. Drive it to believe.

VWs Secret - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By Ric - November 21 - 11:33 amThis is not your fathers VW. It accelerates like a sports car with the luxury of any top European sedan. It also has the convenience of having the road view of an SUV enabling the driver to see far down the highway. Like many SUVs you may take it off road. My off road experience has been limited to date but I do know that mud and snow are easily accessible. This is my fifth SUV and I do not think of it as an SUV at all. I think many men will buy this as a family car and end up wanting it to be their very own.

Amazing truck - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By tocoron - November 13 - 9:03 amThis is truly an amazing vehicle. Rides like a car, pulls more than all full size SUVs and the design is nice.

Worth Every Penny - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By Worth the Wait - November 5 - 8:36 pmI purchased my Touareg new in October of 2005. I traded in my leased loaded up 03 GTI VR6 for the creme de le creme of VWs. I havent had really any problems with it. I just wish I wouldve opted for the V8 to get some more ump once I press the accelerator. I would recommend this vehicle to any and everyone that likes to own vehicles that are not everywhere you look, i.e Grand Cherokees, Explorers, X5s, RXs, etc.

I love my Touareg! - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By sammy - September 28 - 8:40 amI love the way it drives with a lack of road noise. We have driven it in driving snow, hot weather, pouring rain- it hugged the road! In the snow, rain and ice- there was no slippage at all. I have a dark green/lt gray interior model. Tho only thing I would change is the availablity to get the US spec. asseccories in Europe!

Best every day car I have ever owned - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By ron - September 27 - 11:30 amI have owned 5 Jeeps since 1986, I like the size and looks of the Jeep but not the brakes or trips to the dealer for repairs. I have 4500 miles on my V-8 Touareg and love it. It is has all the power you would ever need, and is as much fun to drive as my Porsche 4-S. The build quiity is superior to the Jeep. The air suspension is a must. The Touareg V-8 comes standard with most everything unlike the Porsche SUV.. The only negative I have is the gas mileage and the way the rear seats fold down. If I drive sensibly I can get 14 in town and 18 on the freeway. On the road it handles like a sport car (air suspension) After a 400 mile trip my legs are not cramping up as they have in every other car I have owned.

Great Car - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By trichard - August 21 - 4:23 amI have found this car to be of excellent quality and ride. The V8 is a powerful bonus, but fuel economy suffers (though I find to be getting better milage than the milage posted). The ride is comfortable, with the my only complaint of the interior is air conditioning flow to the back seat. The tires out of the dealership lasted about 15000 miles, so be prepared to buy new then. I do not have the nav system, and found it to be too difficult to use, as it was CD based and not touch screen. Other than that, this is a excellent car for one who wants 4 wheel capability (I live in CO, and it handles rugged roads outstandingly well) or a sporty car for in town.

Beats the X5 and ML - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By HS - June 30 - 2:00 pmI have owned it for about 2 years with almost no problems; the maintenance is very affordable, about once a year for $120 ~ $180. It is fun to drive, beats the X5 and ML hands down. Great handling. The interior is really nice, almost as nice as the Cayenne. Some people say the gas mileage is not that great; I have to partially agree but keep in mind that this is an SUV with lots of horses under the hood. If you are looking for gas mileage then do not buy an SUV.

Touaregs are tops - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By Mike Bronkowski - April 29 - 10:16 pmThe best vehicle I have ever owned. Great looking inside and out. You feel safe and secure inside it. A joy to drive. Great handling, perky engine and powerful drivetrain, solid construction, roomy interior (front seats) cozy seats and a smooth ride. Going to the gas pump often is offset by the car performance.

Best vehicle I ever drove/owned - 2005 Volkswagen Touareg
By queennella - February 11 - 6:56 amBeing a past employee at an automobile dealership with over 9 car lines, this is by far the best vehicle I have ever driven. I purchased this vehicle in May of 04 and dread having to turn it in at the end of my drivers option lease. Not only is this vehicle reliable in all circumstances, it also is worth every penny that I spend on it a month. I wouldnt trade my Touareg for any other vehicle in on the market. Volkswagen has definitely hit a high note with this one and continues to prove that they are a company that will continue to rock the market with new and exciting merchandise in the future. I cant wait to see what they will do next to top this one.
