Overview & Reviews
The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features.
- Upscale interior, polished road manners, amazingly adept off-road, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
- Poor fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

Sometimes lemons are black - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Cyndi - September 10 - 1:03 pmThe lease on my 2004 Tourareg will expire in January, 2008. This is one vehicle I will have no qualms about turning in. Ive lost track of the number of times its required service and the hours lost from work. I should have done my homework before leasing it - I dont recall anything in the sales pitch about the astronomical cost of an oil change, the absurd price of wiper blades and I completely missed the part about it requiring premium gas. Live and learn. Unfortunately, I based this purchase on how much I have loved my 2000 Beetle which has been flawless in operation. Silly me. Perhaps if this car would have been yellow instead of black I would have spotted the lemon

Never again! - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By ERIK - August 30 - 2:56 amI like this car. Great features, good looks, good performance. What i hate is vw service. I do not think that vw was ready for the luxury level clientel. My car has been in the shop for more than a month in the 15 months ive owned it. Although there is full warranty but most items are not paid for. There have been numerous recalls. Going for a service is worse than going to a dentist. In conclusion although i like this car and enjoy driving it, the pains that i have been through with 4 different vw dealerships in los angeles area has made me vow to never again buy another vw, no matter how good the car might be.

Hot...But Sometimes Too Hot! - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By GrayBatts - August 24 - 10:00 amVolkswagon has really designed a winner. I compared with the Volvo XC90, Lexus RX 330, MB ML430 and the VW knocked them out. Great on-road manners and a demon in the sand and mud. Excellent fit and finish. One major complain...the air conditioner went out twice. First time within the first 100 miles and again two weeks later, both times on road trips. VERY HOT AND VERY FRUSTRATING!

Wow! I didnt expect this - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By siDeswiper - August 24 - 10:00 amI was one of the first buyers of this Touareg and I love this car. The drive has a totally smooth feel to it. This includes smooth suspension and smooth acceleration. This car has power! (310 horse to be exact) You can take this car up an almost vertical hill with loose dirt easily and then drive on a smooth road...SMOOTHLY. probably the only car that is this all around. The inside is totally comfortable and spacious.

Snow bound Touareg - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Chod - August 18 - 2:00 amIm loving my 2004 Touareg. It handles great up here in the Northlands snow and ice. I have no complaints with the V-6 and would recommend it over the V-8 unless youre a speed demon. I traded in my old BMW 525 and Yukon Denali to consolidate into one car--this is the perfect comprimise. I can get around in the snow, do some light to moderate off-roading and still feel the road behind the wheel of a German sedan. Its the best of all the "luxury SUVs" Ive driven. Didnt get the nav package. Undertand a better one is coming out in 05. Would have liked the XM Satellite Radio option if it were available.

No words - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By shmuck - August 12 - 2:00 amThis vehicle drove like a dream. The on road handling is fantastic and the immediate response of the power plant, ecceptional. The interior design is perfect, not over whelming with useless gadgets. Perfectly engineered to give you the all the comforts while adding award winning safety and fun the package. Awesome, dont you think?

Touareg LEMON - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By pe02 - August 7 - 10:00 amI purchased a V6 Touareg last October and have had MULTIPLE problems with it. The keyless entry system does not always work. The homelink has been replaced, the computer board for the convenience menu failed. The brakes sound like an 18 wheeler. I had $400. mudflaps put on that are now stained from the bolts that hold them on that have rusted. The radio has a software problem that I am told that VW has no answers for and the CD player freezes at various tomes and you cannot get the cd out. I have contacted VW many times with no response. DO NOT BUY A VW, THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR LEMONS
