This Year's Model Updates:

The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features.

Pros:
  • Upscale interior, polished road manners, amazingly adept off-road, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
Cons:
  • Poor fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

  • Lots of problems - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

Apparrently it isnt a good idea to purchase a vehicle in its first year out? Headlights go out for no reason, tire pressure system keeps malfunctioning, hatchback/trunk keeps popping open. Have had it to the dealership many times with no success.

  • Its a Lemon - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

I loved this truck when I test drove it. Thats when the love ended. From day one of driving it off the lot it has been in the shop for 50+ days for everything from brakes to electrical problems to a dangerous swirving that occurs when going from 1st to 2nd gear. The interior is cheaply made as buttons wear down after only a year. Ive applied for the lemon law. Make sure you get all problems documented. VW gave me hassle. Do not buy this vehicle! It is the worst buy Ive ever made.

  • If It Sounds Too Good... - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
    By -

If I had to do it all over again, I probably wouldnt. The Touareg sounded good and was comparably priced for the category it is in. I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle starting with tires wearing-out in less than 8,000 miles with no recourse from VW. My truck has been in the dealer for service numerous times. Two days ago it would not start and was stranded in my garage. VW roadside service came but could not tow it because the battery was dead, the key stuck in the ignition, and it was stuck in park. Ive had numerous campaign upgrades for many of the Touaregs computers. Several trouble lights announce with no solutions given in the owners manual.

  • Get Rid of It! - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
    By -

I just traded in my VW Touareg in on an Infiniti FX35. It was the best feeling in the world. Have owned six VWs since 1999. This will be our last! This truck was very unreliable. My dealer could/would not fix its problems. Mine had problems with the electrical system, tire pressure monitor, locking system, tow hook, etc... These are all that come to mind right now. Do not buy this truck, even a used one!
