This Year's Model Updates:

The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features.

Pros:
  • Upscale interior, polished road manners, amazingly adept off-road, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
Cons:
  • Poor fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

I just brought my new Touraeg home. Just 2 dislikes so far. I had to remove the center rear headrest. With it installed, the view from the rearview mirror was almost completely blocked. Another annoyance is that when the A/C is on, the system sends a small amount of cold air though the defroster which causes condensation on the windshield on humid days.

  • Worth way more than the price tag. - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

I just got my V8 Touareg home. Ive opted for the Nav/SSII, conv. pkg, and bi-xenons as well. Im looking at a price tag of about $42,000 (for a list of about $45,500). Ive driven the recently released BMW X3, the Land Rover Discovery and the Acura MDX. I owned a Tahoe and have been the passenger in a friends RX330. None of these vehicles even compare to the Touareg. I had so much fun driving this thing. Its a smooth, tight, powerful ride and the interior is as beautiful as the exterior. Ive never been more sure about a car purchase before in my life.

Did extensive shopping to replace my 01 MDX. Shopped the XC90, Range Rover, X5 4.4, Cayenne S, FX series, ML500. The Touareg made the most sense to me, was the best value, and was the best looking of the bunch

Ive enjoyed my Touareg for 2.5 years. So far it will give you a good ride, it has a good engine with German performance. I like the modern design which remains good looking today compared to other SUVs that I see on the street. Cons: some small details like the A/C buttons and mirror controller have worn off. Yet, they were replaced at no cost. The gas consumption is huge. I spend around $140 per month with an annual mileage of a bit less than 10,000 miles.

  • Touareg destined for Offroad - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

We purchased our Touareg with the intent of using it as a true SUV/SAV. It was for my wife to haul the kids around town, for us to go camping with, and for me to take offroad with my Jeep Friends. The air suspension is AMAZING and the torque the V6 puts out has kept me up with the best of them. Fear of scratching the paint is the ONLY think that keeps me from going some places. Ive been offroad on SEVERAL Difficult rated course throughout southern Califonia and the TRex will NOT let you down. Many Pictures with two wheels in the air and still moveing forward in a straight line! And the BRAKES!!! DAMN!!!

Dealerships not well prepared at launch with knowledge of vehicle, technical support or parts support and inventory. Vehicle is most pleasing due to interior design, exterior design, overall comfort / ride comfort and extreme capability off-road and in snow. The combination of interior & exterior design and appearance, fit and finish combined with quiet, comfortable ride together with outstanding off-road capability and very respectable street performance put it squarely in direct competetion with the much more expensive Range-Rover.

VW does not stand behind its products. I have had my Touareg in the shop for various items including transmission problems for a total of 14 weeks since I purchased it. this truck cost $55,000 new and now I cant even sell it. The most I can get for a trade is $31,000. It needed new tires at 15,000 miles. It has wear caused by the failure of the stepper motor and VW would only pay for half of them. That was another $500 dpwn the drain. Also, it absolutely sucks gas, honestly, even driven when very gingerly. The transmission still shifts quirky and the brakes grab. I would not purchase another VW product for all the money in the world. I thought of claiming it under the lemon law, but who has the time for all that litigation. It squeaks and rattles all the time.
