Overview & Reviews
The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features.
- Upscale interior, polished road manners, amazingly adept off-road, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
- Poor fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

Dream Car - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By tj8576 - January 16 - 3:30 amAfter hearing my wife go on and on about wanting to upgrade her Jetta to a Touareg, I finally purchased her a used 2004 model with only 14,000 miles on it. I have to say this is by far the neatest vehicle on the road. It feels lke a Sherman tank, but is nimble, fun to drive, and gets a lot of attention. I would honestly say there is not another vehicle on the road that I would prefer, even if spending twice as much. VW did a phenominal job with their entry into the SUV market.

The Poor Mans Porsche - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Sports Driver - January 13 - 10:00 amOverall the car is excellent, but whenever you purchase a Touareg make sure the maintenance agreement is one purchased in the area where it will be serviced. Not all dealerships honor these agreements. Believe Me!!!!!!! One more thing, Volkswagon is still working out the kinks with all the computer chips installed in the vehicle, so you might have to visit the dealership a few times until these small annoyances are resolved.

Burns too much gas, but l LOVE it - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Goat Roper - January 13 - 10:00 amHavent had it very long, but it is the best designed SUV that I have seen or driven. I drove a Toyota Landcruiser in Africa on several occasions and loved it, but would have liked to have had this T-Reg. Only question in my mind is reliability. All these behemoths get poor gas mileage. We all should have known this when we purchased these heavyweights! Navigation system could use some software changes to make it more like what I have seen in Toyota/Lexus vehicles. The dealer told me Navigation software upgrades are coming. Not many automobiles make me want to go out into the garage to get one last look before going to bed, but this one does!!

Love the Touareg - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Lenlori - January 8 - 10:00 amResearched and test drove all the other mid-sized SUVs. Touareg was by far the best deal. Much better fit, finish and interior design than BMW, Mercedes or Lexus. V-8 gets over 19mpg on the highway with a full load. Could be better, but not bad considering vehicles weight and power. Love being behind the wheel of this vehicle. Amount of features are unreal for the price. NAV coiud be better, but gets me where Im going. Fantastic ride and handling. Luxury car quiet. No problems at all with my vehicle. Dealer has been the best Ive ever dealt with. Everyone that sees my Touareg is amazed by the quality and ride and immediately want one!

We Love Our Touareg! - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Jim & Dera - January 2 - 10:00 amThis machine is an awesome SUV & Sports Car all in one!!!! We successfully drove this vehicle up a snowmobile path ( former railway track here in Newfoundland .....pushing 12 inches of snow ) and thought for sure we would get it stuck in the snow!!! Lots of power on the Highway too.....our V8 . 310 HP is registered for 320km per hour! We love the interior ( lots & lots of real walnut wood trim ) Cadillac & Lincoln should take heed here! Tire pressure monitoring system saved us trouble yesterday, front tire picked up a nail ( unsuspectingly to us ) and instrument panel warned of irregular tire pressure. Make no wonder "Motor Trend Magazine" named it 2004 Sport Utility of the year!

Fine Car So Far - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Bob A. - December 12 - 12:20 pmI purchased my Touareg used in June of 2006 from a reliable dealership that sold this car new. The previous owner had issues with the radio, which was replaced, tires (the dealer replaced them with top line Michelins prior to buying) and a leaking tail light. Since June, the only issue has been the tire pressure sensors, which go off frequently when the weather turns cold. Re-store and its fine again. I have heard nothing but complaints about this car and have yet to be disappointed by it. It has plenty of pick up from the V6 engine, smooth shifting through the gears, and I have averaged 18.7 MPG on for 4,000 miles. I heard VIN#s over 60,000, have fewer problems as they fixed many issues by then. Mine VIN is 63,500 (last numbers).

AWESOME CAR!! - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Jim Ryan - December 7 - 2:00 amThis is most likely the greatest vehicle Ive ever purchased. The last car I owned was a 2002 Cadillac Escalade, and the Toureg beats it without any doubt. The first time I saw this car, I thought it was the Porsche Cayanne. But after test- driving both, I decided that I liked the Toureg better. Porcsche should stick to making cars... I reccomend buying this car for anyone looking for a mid size SUV under $45,000. Volkswagon has done it again!

A Car As it Should Be - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By StanVWMan - December 1 - 2:00 amI drove many late models and tested a bunch before buying VW T-g. Go with V8. It is a good feeling to drive one of the most powerful and safe cars on the road (counting some of the 18-wheelers too). Like with many others German- designed cars - it is a car "as it should be". Particularly, an SUV as it should be. Poor us, we just didnt know how admirable a real present-days SUV can be. And poor folks settling for so- called "reliable" Honda/Toyotas "SUVs". Touareg is a car that makes you want to get up in the morning and drive (ironically for some - to work, to earn the monthly payments). Over sudden, I have a new meaning in life
