This Year's Model Updates:

The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features.

Pros:
  • Upscale interior, polished road manners, amazingly adept off-road, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
Cons:
  • Poor fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

  • Cool Ride - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

My wife drives the VW during the work week and I drive my Expedition. And when the weekend hits I drive the V8 Touareg as much as I can. It is an eXtreme machine and it really jams down the road. The interior is very comfortable and my kids love the stereo. My wife says she loves her V8 Touareg and likes to drive fast in it all the time. Thats why she gets poor gas milleage.

I bought this car on vacation, not knowing much about it, I drove over 1000 mile home and was wounderfully surprised at the ride and handling on the mountain roads of West Virginia. The gas milage is about what I expected for a 4 wheel drive. I used to driving a Ford Expedition and am very satisified with the overall performance and it was $20,OOO less than the Cheyann which I was looking at.

  • Lovin my new Toureag SUV - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

This SUV is great! The drive is awesome, it really hugs the road well. Drives great in rain too. Waiting to drive it in the snow next winter, that will be the real test. I came out of a Mercedes - SEC and I have to admit, I like the drive as much as the Mercedes. The cabin is beautiful and everything is very handy to read. Very comfortable cabin. The sound system is great too. Overall I am very happy with the SUV. VW did a great job!

This is the greatest car I have ever owned. It drives like a sedan and is very luxurious for its pricing.

My Touareg has been in shop more than any other vehicle I have ever owned. Everything has gone wrong with it at some point or another, Engine-problems, missfirings, water leakage problems, and everything else that could go bad has. The biggest problem is continued water leak problems, despite multiple efforts to fix. What ever you don dont park it outside, unless you want a swamp inside. Dealers dont even know how to fix them in some cases. Dont ever own one out of warranty! Buyer beware.

  • Fantastic SUV - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

This VW definately puts the "SPORT" in SUV. It handles like no other on the market, is luxurious, fast, and outright fun. Not many SUVs can claim that. This SUV does not seem to suffer the dreaded "soccer mom" curse that most of the competition does, thanks for not putting in a 3rd row seat! The build quality, and fit/finish are on par with the best of anything on the road today. Absolutely no regret in getting this vehicle. I have other VWs, and will continue to buy them. No other manufacturer makes anything that does all things so well. Great job VW!!

  • Love-Hate Relationship - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

I love driving my Touareg. I especially like its ability to effortlessly tow my 5,500 lb. horse trailer. And it doesnt seem to mind 89 octane gas instead of the recommended premium. But the computer system has a mind of its own, the original tires lasted only 19,000 miles, the interior trim is falling apart, and the dealer experience has been terrible. Oh, I should also mention that a simple oil change will set you back about about $120 since it requires synthetic oil, and lots of it.

  • DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

6 days after I purchased the vehicle 3 of the 6 ignition coils were shot and needed to be replaced, a few months later another ignition coil was shot. Since then the Emissions light has been repeatedly going off, was told it was the Catalytic Converter, $3000 to repair! I thought maybe there was something wrong with the sensor as it only seemed to go off when there was a drastic weather change, yet have not had a problem since reset. Power Relay went last week, $1300, then told the Electronic Break Control Modual Assembly was shot, $2400, yet replacement did not fix problem and they have no idea how to fix! DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE!

  • Do Not Buy A Touareg - Ever - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

This is the most poorly build cars I have ever bought. It spends most of its time in the VW repair shop where most of the mechanics know little about how to make the necessary repairs. Its been towed numerous times due to electrical issues and recently had its 4th battery installed. I had new front brakes put on at 50K which cost $1,000, replaced the original tires at 30K, have a back seat that locks, have a $700 issue with the tire pressure system, have another fault light on related to the air suspension, have a xenon headlight that is problematic. My list of issue is never ending. Please dont waste your money on a Touareg. Ill never buy another VW. The Touareg is a LEMON.

  • Best Overall SUV - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

No other SUV can touch the interior styling of the Touareg. The quality of parts and materials makes the Lexus RX 330 look cheap. The outside is stylish without looking like aftermarket parts - the RX 330 chrome tail lights - come on! SO HIGHSCHOOLISH. The Tourag is a bit touchy in low speeds and gets 15 mpg, but, those are the only lows. Beats Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and all others. VW is also cool - who needs those other stuckup brands? My Touareg gets looks from all ages. Get one!
