  Based on 3 wk ownership. Driven Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, Acura, & Lexus, and this auto surpasses them all. Most impressive styling and ride. Quiet & funct. cabin. Well appointed interior & user friendly nav sys w/detailed mapping. Given wt of the vehicle, acceleration impressive & smooth. Optional continuous dampening control system works in conj w/ 4 corner adj air susp to give this SUV very impressive cornering. Long list of standard features & w/ PP Pkg. Would strongly suggest you look at this vehicle before you purchase from the competiton. Glad glad I did. Pricing in line with the others. IS a SERIOUS contender in the LUXURY SUV cat.

  I cant wait to break in the engine and get down to buisness. Fuel economy is a drag, but hey... this thing can weigh around 3.5 tons... not much can do that efficiently! Its a blast to drive, and even more fun to discover all the little eggs, so to speak, about the car. I love it!

  vehicle makes a whining sound from transmission 1 out of 10 times vehicle will not start suspension is very noisey steering wheel heater only warms bottom of wheel transmission hesatates on downshift very clunky one would expect more from a $43,000 vehicle poor dealership service. had to wait over a week to bring it in for these problems also note that they gave me no loaner vehicle the general manager of this dealership wound not return my calls when i told the dealer i wanted to be bought out of this vehicle they said they would at best give me $31,000 back big loss for a two week old poor quality vehicle.what does that say for volkswagon ?

  Excellent Peoples Car - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg

  There is a lot of reading and getting used to. The transmission is unbelievable with 6 gears and auto or standard shifting. The car is solid and perfect body work and the motor is powerful. Interior is perfect and the dash lights at night are Blue and Red for easy reading. Headlights are excellent with high intensity the brakes are excellent the best yet. There is some residue on the wheels from brake dust but a good washing will fix that. Im very satisfied and so is the wife.

  We test drove a Porsche Cayenne in March 2003. It was a good compromise for my husbands dream car and the practicality of a growing family. However, we knew the Toureg would be released soon. We are glad we did because we virtually have the same car as a Cayenne S for $20,000 less! My husband still has a Porsche on his dream car list -- just now hes back to a car for mom & dad someday. . . .

  Solidly built and fun to drive ith excellent handling. Ive not taken it off rode- yet. Fuel consumption is as advertised- a true gas hog. Front seats are on a bit of a platform limiting putting your left foot back which is my only complain about comfort. Gauges are too small and hard to scan while driving. Gadgets are plentiful- reading the manual is a must.

  This is the most impressive SUV on the market and it provides the most features for the money. Power of the V8 is phenomenal (not to mention the exhaust note), interior design and build-quality are top-notch (no other SUV comes close), exterior design is gorgeous...I can go on and on. :-)

  My parents bought this new in Sep 04. Now 10+ years later, its only used to go to the grocery store or LA fitness. This car have good looks, very nice interior (for its price), nice ride. But everything else pretty much sucks. Although its "only" a VW, maintaining and fixing this car costs a fortune. MPG is about 10/16 city/highway which is horrendous. Drive shaft broke and needed replacement at 30k and 60k. Fuel pump failed around 42k. Airbag fault at 10k. TPMS failed at 25k. As of now, the only problem is the totally broken electricals; keeps telling me I have low engine pressure even though I dont. The only thing that hasnt failed is the transmission which is made in Japan. Go figure.
