Overview & Reviews
The five-passenger Touareg is an all-new midsize SUV from Volkswagen. Designed to provide both excellent handling on pavement and a high level of off-road ability, the Touareg, despite its unibody design, is a real SUV, not a soft-roader. Alongside that, buyers can look forward to beautifully furnished cabins equipped with plenty of standard convenience and safety features.
- Upscale interior, polished road manners, amazingly adept off-road, solid construction, lengthy standard equipment list.
- Poor fuel economy, not a lot of room in the backseat, no in-dash CD changer.

After 50,000 Miles. - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Mountain Driver - March 9 - 11:10 pmI have now driven my V6 Touareg 55,000 miles. I have two complaints, it is a gas guzzler and it lack of power. At 5,000 lbs. plus, I dont know what they were thinking when they put in a V6. Other than that, it has been an awesome vehicle. To date it has only needed one set of spark plugs and oil and filter have been the only maintenance. Winter driving is sheer fun up here in the Laurentian Mountains. this is a poor mans Porsche Cayenne or Audi Q7.

Loaded V8 what a treat - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By jkellerfsu - March 6 - 10:00 amThis is my first SUV. I traded my 2002 Passat in for the 04 Touareg. I was looking for an SUV that "felt" like a car and I found it. I didnt want to write a review though until I returned from my camping trip. Even on the ORV trails, I couldnt believe how smooth it drove. It took steep hills and streams like nothing. I am very impressed and so are my SUV die-hard friends. I love this SUV and am so glad I made the switch. It gets a lot of looks too.

I love this vehicle! - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Koss - March 6 - 10:00 amI just love this thing. Shes an excellent peice of work, especially when you compare it against the others. this is my 30th vehicle, my only complaints, lots of technology to learn, and she loves her gas!! I find it too much of a pain to put the CDs in the rear, so I just use the dash.

Beware of tire issues!!! - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By kylekonkarne - February 15 - 3:23 pmThe tires on the air suspension vehicles are horrible. After only 15,000 miles the cords were showing. VWOA told me to take a hike, "thats how it is with these vehicles" they said. The dealer was as compassionate with worse customer service. When you pay $54,000 for a vehicle you would think they might want to take care of you.

Whats up with the Homelink? - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By 4mydawgs - February 2 - 2:00 amAfter waiting 4-1/2 months for the car it is now sitting in my garage, they couldnt get the combination of options/colors I wanted. Had to settle for less accessories as well as a different color interior and exterior than I had originally asked for. The car is very nice, powerful, but my previous car was a 2000 Beetle GLX and it is a little disorienting looking for the clock and the speedometer when switching vehicles.

2004 Touareg - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By GSF - February 2 - 2:00 amWe have owned and enjoyed driving the Touareg for 6 months. No problems. Just had the 5000mile check-up/oil change. It took a little while to get used to the feel of driving, the brakes, and the controls. Its not a sports car....but a very well thought out and well built SUV.

From Audi to VW? - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By nhttman - February 2 - 2:00 amOnce I drove this vehicle, all doubts of VWs commitment to style, luxury and power went away. The 310 HP V8 is a welcome difference from most "luxury SUV" V6 or high cost V8 option

Buyer Beware - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Dara - January 29 - 6:36 amI will never purchase another VW again in my life. It runs great while its under factory warranty, but be prepared to shell out at least a quarter of your vehicles market price afterward. Under warranty, the tire pressure monitoring system failed, and I brought it into the dealership 6 times--for which I was told that I was at fault for not "properly monitoring my tires." After the warranty was up, they finally found a problem--and it costs $2000 to repair. My airbag light went on for the first time this week. Total cost: $520. Since the last time I took it to be serviced (1 week ago), the chime on the dashboard malfunctioned, another $1700 problem. ItÂ’s a serious money guzzler. Buyer beware.

Get one. - 2004 Volkswagen Touareg
By Wheat120 - January 26 - 12:16 pmI think this is a great truck. It is more then capable of doing Sunday drives to going down a mountain trail. The worst thing about it is the gas mileage. But can you expect more for a V8 powered 5500 pound SUV then 15 mpg city and 20 highway? I dont think so. Great truck. Just get the extended warrenty just in case something happenes, expensive parts to fix.
