For 2004, the New Beetle is no longer available in GLX trim. There's an improved TDI engine and restyled 16- and 17-inch wheels. Turbo S models get uniquely styled 17-inch wheels as a late-year addition. New safety features include head curtain airbags and upgraded head restraints. The Monsoon audio system is now standard on the GLS and new GDL headlights are optional. Later in the model year a fixed rear spoiler will replace the power-operated unit and a CD player with MP3 capability will be added. Convertibles get new exterior colors and color combinations. All Beetles get a new fuel cap warning light this year. TDI models can be equipped with a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), which is a six-speed manual transmission with electronic control of the clutch and gearshifting. It can be operated in full automatic mode, like a traditional automatic, or shifted manually like a Tiptronic.

  Mixed Bag - 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle

  This car is used for work purposes, and is covered in advertising. While I was nervous to purchase based on review it has turned out to be an okay car. Ive had issues with airbag and check engine lights but there is a ton of information on the internet to help out with those issues. The car is fast and fun to drive, and has a lot of nice features for the cost. Luckily, knock on wood, my issues have been small and hoping for a few more years of reliability.

  I think the 2004 Beetle Cov. has a nice ride and has good room for its size. The power top is one of the best made in any price range.The 1.8 turbo has good seam less power mated with the 6 speed auto. The a/c can handle any thing you throw at it and the wind block helps keep everything calm. The things I would change a larger pass through the trunk (cant get my golf clubs in),some kind of help reaching the seat belt in front seat (they dont stay on you shoulders very well) and can they make the door not sound like you broke it when you shut it! All in all I like most things about it and would buy it again (I have had six new Bettles).

  I love this car!! Its fun to drive, and the colors great! If you get this car be prepared to be stopped by a lot of interested people!

  VERY SMOOTH RIDING AND SHIFTING . WE HAD A 2001 BEETLE AND THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE. IT IS A FUN CAR TO DRIVE AND HAS A LOT OF PEP. WE HAVE A 1.8 TURBO CONVERTIBLE. THIS IS A CLASS CAR VW YOU HAVE COME BACK.

  candy apple red with after market wheels and porsche rims. its a very nice LOOKING car, very sporty, easy on the eyes you know... one of the things i love the most is night driving in it. get a little sleepy at night driving for long distances. two things strike me : one, the lights, absolutely ILLUMINATE the road. its wonderful. the other is, the actual build of the car. when playing music, it actually feels like the music surrounds you. its very easy to get things in and out of, as the seats dont just move forward, they actually LIFT UP and tilt forward. easy to hop friends and children in and out. maybe car seats some day too;)

  I wouldnt trade my VW for anything. The only problem that Im having with my little topless bug is that other people are jealous that they dont have one, too.

  not bad!! i couldve gotten a 911 carrera but i thought this would get better gas mileage and be almost as fun. Good solid car. no complaints.
