  • SOMETIMES I GO TOPLESS! - 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio

I just absolutely love my car! I cant believe they even described it as sluggish. When I first purchased the vehicle, I was worried it wouldnt hold up to the speed my Acura Integra offered, but my little Cabrio definetley has some serious pep. Dropping the top (going topless) makes driving a whole new experience. This is my first convertible and let me tell you, once you go topless you never go back!

I started having problems right off the bat. The check engine light came on about two months into my ownership. They had to replace the entire O2 sensor. Next the door locks broke. Theyve been replaced twice, and are currently broken again. The interior dome light broke in year three. I never touched the thing. The muffler started vibrating in year five. Ive had it "fixed" but its still vibrating when I accelerate. My car has been strictly dealership maintained. They are a pain to deal with. You have to pester and pester to get them to do anything. I figure if a part breaks and keeps breaking VW should change and make better more reliable parts.

The only problem I have had is that the top is splitting at the seam! All the way across the back and to my dismay I discovered that it is glued!! That is crazy! I have it taped right now but I am going to find out if someone can sew up the seam. So far everyone has said that it wont work, but Im going to try it anyway! I cant afford a new top(that is probably glued too!) That has been my only disappointment. Ive not had any big repairs. Its great in the snow! I can get in and out of everywhere and if I could get another one, Id upgrade to another one. Ive got about 160000 miles on it and I hope it lasts for another 3 to 5 years!

Have had this Cabrio since new and only had problems with window regulators - fixed under warranty. Really enjoy the solid top in all kinds of weather. Have had two of these and both have been great.

Great little car - sharp looking red with a black top and black leather interior (very hot in the summer). The extra paid for the GLX is worth it! I purchased the vehicle while living in the mountains - perfect handling on those curvy mountain roads. However, now Im back in the big city and feel intimidated in my small five-speed. Back to an SUV for me!

I bought a used 2002 VW Cabrio GLX and have had it for five years - this car is awesome. I have only had it serviced at the dealer and have had no major issues with the car. I even bought the extended VW warranty - kind of feel it was a waste of money since I still havent used it. If you buy a used one just make sure you get the service records - some VWs have no issues and some have a lot - beware of someone who hides service records - they are hiding problems. If you take care of your VW It will love you for years to come!

  • So much for German Engineering! - 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio

My wife purchased this car a few months before we met. Its been a fun little car to tool about town in. Handles well, gets excellent gas mileage (32 mpg in mixed city driving), and the convertible top is simple to operate. Unfortunately, the car is poorly built: Power windows dont operate properly, interior bits are falling apart, and the final straw: Total transmission failure at under 55,000 miles (5 speed manual.) Google "Self Machining Syndrome" to find out more about how some very important pieces of the drivetrain are held together with rivets! This goes for Golfs and Jettas too.

  • Open air tourning with practicality - 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio

The Cabrio combines everday practicality with open air motoring pleasure. Sufficiently powerful to keep up with traffic and entertain on two-lane roads, it shines when driven on the less traveled roads. Weather-tight and well mannered on the freeway, it is the best of all motoring worlds, especially with the 5-speed transmission. If you can have only one car, this should be it. Dealer service and post-sale attention were first-rate.

  • Love It! - 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio

The Cabrio is the most quiet convertible on the market. A six layer top!! It has a more upscale and more classy feeling than other convertibles that try to be classy and end up corny. The Cabrio is not a barnstormer when it comes to speed; but it is justified power. The car is heavy! Very nice to drive, even with the top up.
