So far I love my cabbie even though it is my first REAL day with it, I love the fact that it is a convertible, and the black interior is one of my favorites, it has more interior room than my old Integra in the back which is a plus for me, I hate the fact that EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING is manual! The windows, the top, I mean its a 2001 not a 1974! It could have been made a little more up to date.

I bought this car a year ago with 100,000 miles on it expecting that with mileage like that, it may need some maintenance and repairs. I have driven it about 17000 miles and all I have had to do is change the oil and give her a tune up. It really hasnt given me any major trouble and it is so much fun to drive. My advice would be to shop carefully and find one that appears to have been well taken care of. I looked at at least 10 of these before I chose this one. It seems to be one of those cars that young drivers beat the heck out of and cant or dont take care of them properly so there are a lot of used/abused cabbies out there. But when you find a good one, grab it. You wont regret it

Lots of leg room for 61" and 65" drivers. No room in back, though. Cup holders are awkward. Expensive to repair and scheduling service is a pain. Non VW stations cant service it because the malfunction codes are standardized (I believe there is a pending lawsuit about this.) Service Engine light goes on if you dont click the gas cap. Get the manual shift if you want any power.

I am so frustrated w/his vehicle. I purchased this car used in 2006. It has been nothing but problems since day 1. I dont spend less then $1k every time it goes in the shop. Everything that could break, bust, freeze, etc. has. Ive lost numerous hubcaps (strange I realize), one day while driving the interior light switch just fell off, another day the glove box handle popped off & landed in the floor board. The interior fabric is like velcro, it literally takes me an hour to vacuum. Of course everyone thinks its cute...I remember when I thought that too, now Id love to drive it into a concrete wall.

This was my dream car now its my nightmare. Its possessed. The Windows never want to do what you want them to do. The car sometimes turns on with out the ac working then you have to restart it. The horn honks itself when its too hot out and its just nickel and diming me. Its cute and I can put the top down and I dont owe anything on it so thats the only reason Im still putting up with this car but as soon as I get my promotion its gone.

  • My Easter Basket - 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio

I cant decide if I love this car or hate it. Snow and tractor trailers are the enemy! Once the warranty expired, the problems started. MANY electrical problems and a coolant leak, so far. If Volkswagens are so reliable, why is the warranty so short? The back seat is roomy, but the front isnt. Try starting it without the wipers coming on! The interior panel material wear too quickly (door handles). With a 2.slOw, it barely gets out of its own way. Not the car to not someone off in! FAR too much wind noise on the highway. Easy parking and very easy to "transform". With the top down, it looks like an Easter basket!

I really do love this car. I cant help but smile when the top is down! I call it my putt-putt car because this is the kind of car you just want to cruise around in.

  • Getting Worried - 2001 Volkswagen Cabrio

This is a fun car, an inexpensive convertible. Ive owned it for almost 5 years and thank goodness I bought an extended warranty, but Im getting worried because it expires in a few months. First the window fell out. Then the door locks went and the check engine light went on. One was covered, the other was not. They did cover the Mass Air Flow device last week for second problem. Also this week, had a bill for over $1,300 for the A/C evaporator! This should have lasted for the life of the car! The whole dash had to come out. Luckily the ext. warranty paid for $1,100 of it! My car has the same problems as some others do too... door handles, etc.
