Overview & Reviews
Toyota is a Japanese brand whose refined, well-designed vehicles have earned it a great deal of popularity. Toyotas also have a superb record for reliability and durability, which goes a long way toward justifying their typically high purchase prices. For buyers who plan on owning their new vehicles for a long time, the Toyota marque is a very compelling choice.
The automaker's name is a variation of the surname of its founder, Kiichiro Toyoda. After years of research, Toyoda unveiled his first prototype, the A1, in 1935, marking the birth of the Toyota Motor Corporation. The '40s witnessed the launch of additional passenger cars and even a pickup. By the end of the decade, the automaker had produced more than 100,000 vehicles.
Toyota grew bigger in the '50s and expanded its roster with a slew of new small cars. The company also unveiled the utilitarian BJ truck; this vehicle was the precursor to the Land Cruiser. By the end of the decade, Toyota had commenced exports to the U.S. with the establishment of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. The first Toyota to be sold on American shores was the Crown; it held the distinction of being the first Japanese car to be sold Stateside.
The '60s witnessed even more growth for the emerging juggernaut. Toyota introduced the Corolla, an immensely popular model that is still in production today. Vehicles like the home-market Publica, the 2000GT, Hiace and Miniace were also launched. The decade closed with Toyota reporting annual domestic sales of 1 million units; cumulative exports also reached 1 million.
Japanese-market cars like the Carina, Light Ace and Publica Starlet were launched during the 1970s. In the States, the Corolla grew in popularity and the Corona and Mk II models debuted as well. The successful Celica sports coupe was also rolled out and would remain in production for more than 30 years. Toyota's shadow had spread far beyond Japan by this point. The decade's oil crisis had made the manufacturer's compact, fuel-efficient models more popular than ever in the United States. By the time the '70s drew to a close, the automaker had exported more than 10 million vehicles.
Toyota expanded its presence in the U.S. market during the '80s, with the introduction of popular models like the 4Runner SUV and the MR2 sports car. The true high point of these years, though, was the birth of the Toyota Camry sedan. Originally known as the Celica Camry in Japan, the car went on to be a hit of phenomenal proportions, earning kudos as America's best-selling car of the year time and time again.
During the '90s, Toyota rolled out the Avalon full-size sedan and expanded its selection of SUVs with the compact RAV4. By the end of the decade, more than 100 million Toyota vehicles had been produced in Japan. The company also proved itself on the cutting edge of new technology with the rollout of the Prius, the world's first mass-produced hybrid. The car debuted in Japan in 1997; by 2001, the fuel-sipping sedan had made its way to American highways. Despite the presence of a growing number of competitors in its segment, the Prius continues to boast class-leading sales.
Toyota's current lineup is relatively extensive, including minivans, cars, trucks and SUVs. The brand remains extremely popular among savvy consumers who place a high value on quality and dependability.

Best in Class - 2003 Toyota Corolla
By EntsPal - March 8 - 2:00 amPurchased this vehicle for son going off to college. Found a car coming off a business lease with only 5K and a great price. Final decision was between Elantra and Corolla. Corolla design in and out and features won me over - although it was a tough choice!

not a mini-van - 2004 Toyota Sienna
By ontariowayne - March 8 - 2:00 amLooked at every vehicle on the market since we did not want a mini-van. My wife and I both born and raised with cars with 5-spd sticks. We both hate automatics and minis. Until now. only 1500 km and love it. Every possible feature is on this van that a person needs/wants.

The Rattler - 2002 Toyota Camry
By LADYMAKEUP - March 8 - 2:00 amThis is a wonderful car if you dont mind hearing noises every so often. The car drove great, but I took it back to the dealer 3 times and said somethings rattling and they told me I had sensitive ears. I had to have the rotors replaced after making 5 payments and Im not hard on my brakes. Its very roomy. I lived out of the trunk. I had a closet away from home. Like the fact that it had a full size tire, but the tires werent so good in wet conditions.

Fun to drive - 2008 Toyota RAV4
By Bob in WA - March 7 - 8:06 pmThe 2008 limited RAV4 with the V6 is a winning combination. The drive is superb, the dual control temperature is a great feature, saves arguments on the right temperatures. The performance of the V6 will impress even the most skeptical driver. Steering is very responsive and all around this is a high quality fun vehicle to drive.

my truck - 2010 Toyota 4Runner
By roverindi - March 7 - 8:13 amI love my 4runner, love the feel and ride. I would definitely buy it again. I used to own a 97 ford explorer, but never had a new vehicle. would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone. so far my gas mileage is 17.4 and climbing since i picked it up the 2nd week of January 2010. It definitely gets up and goes, could very easily get a speeding ticket in this sub.

Safety - 2015 Toyota Prius c
By Lona - March 7 - 6:26 amThe best words I can say about this car is AMAZING SAFTY!!! If for no other reason you could find, the safety of thus car should be the #1 reason to buy it. Not only is it beautiful, gas savings, roomy (for a small car) it also has great safety). My son got a 2012 modle. The other day him, and 3 passengers were in a wreak. The air bags came out from the front, at all doors, the back seats and the trunk. Thank God, because all though the engine was all over the road from where it drops down for safety, NO ONE was badly hurt. All the pain was coming from the seat belts that kept them from bouncing around. I am so greatful that my son got this car and we will be getting another one. I wish there was a bigger way to express my graditude for the people who have worked hard for making this car safe. Its worth the price to buy this car.

Amazing Car to Drive! - 2008 Toyota Avalon
By kcoughlan - March 6 - 7:51 pmPurchased this Avalon from family member, 79000 miles. Upon inspection my mechanic could not believe the condition of the vehicle for the amount of mileage. The quality and craftsmanship of this vehicle is the best that I have ever experienced. Whether around town (18 mpg) or on the highway (28 mpg), the performance of this car is outstanding. All the buttons and bells , except for on board navigation which I substitute with my own gps system. Incredible stereo system. Can not believe that this is a 2008.
