Pros:

  • Blown up rav4 @ 90K - Not recommended - 2007 Toyota RAV4
    By -

Just paid off my 2007 rav4 when it blow a motor. The water pump is located in the back and it broke. My wife drove it and blow up the motor. 8 grand for a new one. Even if she did not blow it up, the water pump is on the back of the engine. This requires the motor to be pulled to change it out. A $2000 to $3000 job depending on where you get it done. I had electrical problems. Tire wear issues, brake problems. All the senors would randomly go off on it. The Tire pressure senors where always needing replaced. I ended up junking the car, basically threw 20K down the drain. I know 2 other people that have had issues with water pump or rear main seal. And they all had there engines blown.

Bought the Sport 3.5 liter V6 4wd in April and enjoyed my first 5000 miles. The six cylinder feels powerful and propels 4 people up steep hills and highway on ramps with astonishing acceleration. The sport tuned suspension provides a firm ride which minimizes body roll when you push it into the curves. Interior is comfortable for 4, a bit snug for 5 although rear leg room is plentiful for my 6 foot teenager. The front seat is comfortable for me - I am 510, with a cranky back. We recently went on family camping trip and with a roof carrier had no problem carrying everything. Only two beefs: the gas tank of 14 gallons is too small - 300 mi. before you get nervous, and the radio stinks.

Fuel economy is a little less than hoped for, 22 - 25 MPG, but I drive at least 70 on freeway, air conditioner on much of time and I live in a hilly area so am expecting a lot for what car is put through. The iPod location is not the most convenient, nor is location of power outlets. Wish rear window opened, continental kit should have a locking system, looks good but door opening is a bit problematic... cannot carry things longer than interior. Love rear seat adjustments and fold down configuration, but middle seat is useless. Lots of power and turning radius is fabulous. Fun. Great visibility. Really like the RAV4, wish the emissions were a bit better but have a v6, so...

  • Love My Rav - 2007 Toyota RAV4

I have had my Rav for 1 yr 5 months. I have no regrets. The reliability factor is a solid 10. It handles the road very well in all types of weather. I have noticed better gas mileage within the last 7-8 months. It is easy to drive. I love the amount of room I have for storage in the back. The glove box is quite roomy also.

  • Buy V6 youll be glad, but beware... - 2007 Toyota RAV4
    By -

Dont hesitate to pay the extra bucks to buy the V6. If you dont youll wish you had. On automatics, make sure you put the automatic shift lever in D not 4th gear. When a driver pulls the lever into drive, the shift gate tends to lead you to 4th gear rather than D and I suspect drivers who get low mileage are doing this because the engine doesnt rev that high in 4. When we first got the RAV4, I drove many highway miles in gear 4 without realizing it and my mileage suffered badly.

  • Ultimate Q-Ship - 2007 Toyota RAV4

I highly recommend this vehicle. I purchased the V6 Limited 4WD with leather, all accessories. Competition was the Honda CR-V which was, finally, no competition. Toyota V6 engine is effortless and power is remarkable. 5-speed transmission is smooth, quiet, unobtrusive. Transmission does not hunt. With V6 engine there is some torque steer, not much compared to other 270 HP engines. Interior is quiet; leather stitching is precise; beware: rear door is very heavy. HVAC is excellent. Real world MPG: first few tanksful of gas, 24.0, 24.6, 23.2 and 26.1. Conditions: Fresno, 95 to 106 degree heat, air conditioning, some freeway, some street. Be very judicious with throttle. 4wheel discs excellent.

  • VVT OIL hose Failure. Engine replacement - 2007 Toyota RAV4
    By -

Just like the post from Deb on 05/05/2009, last month my 2007 Toyota rav 4 with v6 and 38,000 kms had its vvt hose break spraying oil in engine compartment but no engine light came on. Caused engine failure. Had to replace the engine - wasnt easy but they did it under warranty after pushing them hard.

Repair done in 2hrs, very unhappy & will be trading in for another brand near future. I feel this was design flaw in system & toyota not taking resposibility. My next car wont be Toyota. kkb3130

  • I love it! - 2007 Toyota RAV4
    By -

My husband and I were looking for an SUV without the SUV gas prices. We also live in Alaska so we wanted something that had 4X4 but was fun to drive, would be safe for when we start a family, and could handle the snow and ice. We could not be more pleased with what we got with the Rav-4. The AK weather tested the Rav-4 yesterday and as my husband was driving he looked at me and said, "I love this car." The Rav-4 handled beautifly. Also, having had Toyotas since I was 16 I had high expectations for the Rav-4 and it met every one of them.
