Overview & Reviews
New for 2006, the hybrid version of the Highlander pairs a gasoline-powered V6 with electric motors to improve fuel economy and acceleration.
- Real-world gas mileage in the 20s, terrific acceleration, smooth ride, comfortable cabin with simple controls and solid materials.
- Extra weight results in so-so handling, engine can be noisy, poor access to third-row seat.

2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid FWD Limited - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By Huraira - June 26 - 8:00 amGot this SUV 2 months back, so far no issue at all, and what amazing comfort I got with this. Very roomy, fuel efficient, now I am getting 31MPG combine. I guess I can achieve 34mpg when only driving 40M/h. I started with 28 on my first 400miles.

Great Purchase - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By howie29 - May 8 - 7:20 pmA bit pricey, but rides great and I have gotten 30 mpg in traffic conditions if I drive it easy. Mpg drops to mid 20s during hard and highway driving. Love this vehicle except for the price.

My Toyota Delight - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By Richard Rousselle - April 23 - 2:10 amWe have enjoyed our Highlander Hybrid immensely. We appreciate the better mileage than the regular Highlanders which we have had in the past. It has all the creature comforts of the Camry plus the Navigation system. It is very responsive to the foot when accelerating and will really get out and go in passing situations. The seating is comfortable and will seat 7 when taking out the expanded family. It is a good road car which lets you sit back, relax, and take in the scenery.

Great vehicle - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By Todd F - March 30 - 1:33 pmI bought this vehicle used and it looks and runs like its brand new. Averaging 29 mpg on the highway using the air- conditioning. Around town with no air, I have achieved 34 mpg. Drove from D.C. to Philly the other night, no air, averaged 32 mpg at 70 mph. Replaced my Ford Expedition that used to average 13 mpg, and I love this car! Next I am going to replace by Ford Edge with a Prius.

Effortless power, decent MPG, comfort! - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By tash - March 18 - 7:30 amFirst things first: THH is a rocket. Acceleration is amazing and it does without major effort. Bought it used with about 10k miles and have 15k now. At this point, I would not change it for any car in the market, including the new THH, which is bigger and wider (Toyota, why?). Ride is soft (maybe not the softest but after CRV, its like gliding). Exterior is very modest, interior is much better. My wife calls it a granma car on the outside. I actually like it that way. Very subtle, yet very powerful. My friends cant stop smiling at the silence when THH runs on the electric. Big fan of this car. Thank God, no problems, only scheduled maintenance. MPG is ok, esp given the power.

GREAT 4wd Limited HH - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By mtshastabound - March 8 - 4:13 pmI just purchased this WONDERFUL car in OH (salesperson was Ernie Coon - who was wonderful!) and have just arrived home in California! Our cross-country drive was absolutely FLAWLESS! In hot, humid, windy, cool, raining conditions - MPG was 23-29 WITH A/C 95% of the time - 90% freeway traveling 70-82 MPH. Cant find a single thing wrong with the car ... not even a rattle or a squeak! Toyota has done a MARVELOUS job with the Highlander Hybrid 4wd Limited!

21st Century SUV - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By MWB - January 15 - 7:30 pmThough Ive only driven a couple hundred miles, I already love this SUV. Im impressed with the quality of the ride and handling. Im not anticipating the 31 mpg promised for city driving. Nevertheless, I can hardly believe what Im already seeing on the fuel computer! 25 mpg is awesome for the power produced in this 4X4! Im also impressed with the quiet, smooth car- like ride. I get all I had before plus a quality, hi-tech machine with a tax break!

Forget fuel economy, think fun driving! - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By LAHYBRID - December 21 - 12:33 amOK, the number crunchers figured out you couldnt save the planet and money, so the fuel economy wont justify the purchase price; but what if you factor in the fun of having that extra horsepower and sedan-like fuel usage, man what a rush. When you gun the car, passengers yell in glee as the performance is really breathtaking. The controls are expertly placed, the cruise controls, rear seat/storage space, the sound system etc. all make the added cost worth every penny. Even if there were a glut of gas and prices plummeted, the ride would sill be comfortable, luxurious and fun! And dont we deserve, nay demand fun in these times.

Mileage is consistent with sticker - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By FRITZER - November 1 - 5:00 amIve had the vehicle for six weeks. I average 30.1 MPG, combined city/highway. Drive to work is 15 miles in Sacramento, CA. If I push acceleration above 50 kW and do not anticipate stops ahead, mileage drops below 28 MPG. If I accelerate modestly and keep the power at or below 25 kW during acceleration, I consistently get better than 30 MPG overall. I verified the readings on the vehicles MPG meter at the gas pump - hand calculations. This is a fun vehicle to drive and the challenge is to out do the mileage from the day before. If you spend a lot of time driving above the hash marks on the kW meter, expect worse gas mileage - simple math. Fly like a rocket, pay for the gas!

2006 hybrid highlander - 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid
By michael blair - October 23 - 6:16 pmI am getting 33 miles to the gallon and I am not trying very hard yet because this automobile is a thrill to drive. I have a 05 Prius that I am getting 60 mpg and that is a lot of effort. The mileage, the clean burning, and the fact I have a new vehicle that is worth more than I paid for it, I have to pinch myself every time I get behind the wheel of both of these technological wonders. Im not going to go into detail about the fact I have been researching these vehicles for a year now, I just cant believe there are still so many skeptics. Toyota has been working on this technology 40 yrs. these cars are worth every penny, and will be the most dependable car you have ever owned. It is the future!!!
