This Year's Model Updates:

In an effort to better protect occupants of this lightweight economy car, Toyota makes side airbags optional for 2001. Brilliant Blue Pearl is a new color.

Pros:
  • Good gas mileage, speedy acceleration, roomy and functional interior, likely to be reliable.
Cons:
  • Cartoonish styling, dopey gauge placement, lousy handling, deceptively low base pricing.

  • Absolutely Nothing to Complain About - 2001 Toyota Echo

Ive had this car for approx. 9 years and am very pleased with the gas mileage, appearance, and performance.

  • I love this car. - 2001 Toyota Echo

This has been the best car I owned hands down. 190,000 miles and still zipping along. Im very tall and this car has better leg and head room than most any other car Ive sat in. Fun to drive and great mileage (38-40 hwy). No work done other than tires and oil changes. Still have original battery and did not need brakes until 150,000 miles. I plan on getting 300,000 out of this and Ill try to find another one for my next car. Stereo system is awsome too.

  • Best value around. - 2001 Toyota Echo

This car has been in my family since it was purchased for ~$10k in 2001. There is currently 130k miles on it. Im still averaging around 40mpg in the summer and 36mpg in the winter. Crazy that this car is still worth something in the neighborhood of $3-3.5k private party. You cant ask for more than that. If it werent for the need to fit two car seats (2nd child on the way), I would never give this car up. Its just too good of a value. I should also mention that its very fun to drive. Work performed: computer failed at about 90k ($1100), bushings replaced (120k), engine coil replaced (120k), catalytic converter needs to be replaced along with the exhaust (MN winters = rust + holes)

  • Makes Being Thrifty Fun - 2001 Toyota Echo

The car is unbelievably roomy for its size (headroom and legroom are outstanding, even for 6-footers). The engine is smooth and responsive. The exterior styling, grows on you, and the interior design is brilliant. The amount of storage space in the interior...with its myriad, smartly designed cubby-holes...allows you to fit everything you want to take with you to have its own space. Gas efficiency is, of course, excellent. Visibility, due to the high seating position, is as good as any car Ive ever driven. Even the trunk is surprisingly large. Reliability, so far, seems typical Toyota.

  • Awesome Little Spunky Car - 2001 Toyota Echo

Must have for the small budgeted individual. Has style, spirit. A great little "puudle-skipper!"

  • Great Car - 2001 Toyota Echo

You wont regret buying this car. It is very powerful when carrying only 1 or 2 passengers. However, too much weight and it starts to get substantially bogged down. The interrior is very nice and Ive grown to like the center console very much. I find the seats to be very comfortable. The wind does blow the car around - especially at high speeds. This car is very light weight and is very fun to drive.

  • Great Car - No Major Repairs - 2001 Toyota Echo

I have had this car for about 8 years and the only things I have had to do is oil changes and new tires. Nothing else has needed to be repaired! It also gets great gas mileage. Best car in the world!

  • More room then you think - 2001 Toyota Echo
    By -

I found the 2001 echo to be a great little car to get around, at first one has to get used to driving it. Being more alert around you, not taking ones eyes off the road for too long, space inside is a real plus, head room is very good, well put together

  • One happy owner - 2001 Toyota Echo

Bought a used 2000 Echo for my wife two weeks ago. It has A/C, AM/FM/Cassette, Automatic, Power steering, ABS. I am so impressed with the engineering, handling, fuel economy, ergonomics that I want to drive it all the time. Am thinking about trading my Montana for a 2003 Echo. True Toyota all the way. I highly recommend this vehicle for anyone looking for economical, reliable transportation.

  • a unique car - 2001 Toyota Echo

When I bought my ECHO, at first I had a few reservations. I had never owned a small car, never owned anything less than a V-8. I waw; however, plesantly surprised. The ECHO has plenty of room my me, and Ive fit up to 4 of my friends comfortably in it. As for power, it even has plenty of that.
