Toyota has left the Echo untouched for 2002.

Pros:
  • Good gas mileage, speedy acceleration, roomy and functional interior, likely to be reliable.
Cons:

  • Couldnt Ask for a Better Car! - 2002 Toyota Echo

I just cant say enough about this little gem. What I "sacrifice" in luxury and styling (and not a big sacrifice, its a conveyance, not a living room!) I make up in performance and fuel economy. I have had this car for 4 years and have, admittedly, been pretty rough with it. I havent yet had it in the shop except for yearly inspections. Recently, on a long, flat, straight trip, I traveled 500 miles on a tank of gas. I estimate the tank to be about 11 gallons so you do the math! 5 people can fit comfortably and the trunk space is phenomenal. Its easy to park and easy to drive. If you want a reliable car and feel responsible for environmental impact, this is the way to go

We have used for trips and around town. Gets 43 MPG at 75 mph. Wish they still made them. (Stick shift)

  • Best Car I Ever Owned - 2002 Toyota Echo

This car impresses. ECHO owners know that this car is a gem. This car brings a smile to my face! I previously owned a Tercel and a Honda Civic. The Tercel was a great car. The Civic my worst nightmare, lots of electrical problems. My ECHO is not only problem free but very fuel efficient at 32 miles per gallon. Best car on the road today.

Love my Echo! I previously had a Dodge Pickup. I wanted something that got great gas mileage and also had a little bit of room. Echo was a great alternative to to the more expensive Hybrids. I never get less than 39 miles to the gallon (although I always use 93 octane gas). Echo is also very safe. I had an accident on the interstate in May where I was going about 40mph and hit the car in front of me (it was a 5 car accordian crash and I was the last one). The car abaorbed all the blow and I wasnt hurt or sore at all. I will soon be testing my Echo out when I drive it to Alaska in January. I have lived there before and think it will do well.

  • I heard an ECHO...and answered! - 2002 Toyota Echo

I couldnt be in more disagreement with the "professional" review for the ECHO (which came complete with an egregious spelling error.) My ECHO is red, and it looks like a rocket from the side. It handles very well in city traffic and on the highway. I love the roomy interior, I like the high seating the car affords, and I think the central location of the speedometer is pretty cool. The car has great pickup, its fun to drive, and the price was right. The Edmunds review of the ECHO smacks of snobbery and elitism. If you want a cool, reliable, reasonably -priced auto, you cant go wrong with this car!

  • Gem of a Car - 2002 Toyota Echo

I bought my 2002 ECHO brand new back in 2002. Over 6+ years later, shes still a winner. Not many vehicles can boast that after 5 years they are problem- free, reliable, economical and stylish. I am SO glad I decided on getting an ECHO. Still cute as ever. This car is a gem. Something ECHO owners know very well. Best car ever made, without a doubt.

I bought my Echo new in 02. Ive had NO problems or repairs since I bought the car. My friends and family (all SUV owners) snickered when I originally bought the car. Im the one laughing now with the gas mileage I get and with gas prices climbing to what they are. A great value in this car!

  • Best Car EVER! - 2002 Toyota Echo

I bought this 2002 Toyota Echo for my daughter in 2005. It had 59K miles on it then. After 5 years and another 50K miles, this car runs like new! Oil changes and a new set of tires are the only $ invested. Its bright red color & peppy drive make people ask what kind of car is that? After she graduates from college, I will buy my daughter a new car & I plan to drive this ECHO until the wheels fall off, even though I doubt it will happen. On her 1200 mile trips to college, she gets around 45 MPG. I think the ECHO may be one of the best built cars ever made. Im hoping to get over 300,000 miles on this car. You cannot go wrong buying a Toyota Echo.

  • 32 mpg since when - 2002 Toyota Echo
    By -

The Edmunds review says 32 mpg. The Echo seems to have a variable mileage with actual mileage being closer to the 32 mark in sub-zero weather. However in actual driving here in Wisconsin I consistently get 40-42 mpg. Above 50 degrees I have gotten as much as 44 mpg. lately on a vehicle with over 110,000 miles on it. Funky steering in the wind, funky looking, but very roomy inside and well-built body. Id buy one again in a heartbeat and no Im not selling the one I have.

  • Not just a commuter car - 2002 Toyota Echo

After 3+ years, I still love this car: spacious compared with any other small car, miserly gas mileage, no operating problems, great pick-up, nimble handling, can be parallel parked with 1" to spare at each end (honest!), instruments in plain sight (not hiding behind the steering wheel). Until this summer Id never driven it farther than 200 miles from home: wasnt sure how its oomph would handle steep grades on I-70 thru Colorados Front Range and how its light weight would handle high winds on the Great Plains. Mtns: had to opt for the slow lane a few times after losing momentum to pokey vehicles ahead, else OK to good. Plains and Prairies: TOO good! (speeding ticket in Iowa)
