Overview & Reviews
Toyota has left the Echo untouched for 2002.
- Good gas mileage, speedy acceleration, roomy and functional interior, likely to be reliable.
- Cartoonish styling, annoying gauge placement, tilt-a-whirl handling, deceptively low base pricing.

2002 Toyota Echo - 2002 Toyota Echo
By S. Mahadevan (Rajan) - October 31 - 6:34 pmDear Echo lovers, I bought mine in 2007. It had 50K miles on it. Now it has 226K miles and I spend less around $250 a year in maintenance (oil change and other basic stuff). I do not do my own maintenance but I love my Toyota dealership who take great care of my car. Have been doing so during the 16 years I've had the car. I love my car and won't sell it ever.

Gets me around - 2002 Toyota Echo
By kevin - August 27 - 1:56 amGood car until recently I had to spend $300 for a starter then 2 weeks later $1400 to repair the manual transmission. Needed bearings, ring block for 5th gear and a few other things. Mechanic said the original fluid was still in there after 140,000 miles. It should be replaced at least every 40,000 miles so I guess it was my fault. Otherwise a great car.

OK Car - 2002 Toyota Echo
By ARK - August 26 - 2:00 amI bought this car mainly for its comfortable seating and of course for Toyota reliability. I like this car over all. But I am not very happy for the following reasons: Its low speed braking is good but at high speeds (say above 50 mph) its braking is very poor and I am much concerned to drive on highways. Especially for applying sudden brake. I never got gas mileage more than 33 mpg on highways. In the city I usually get about 28 mpg. So I am disappointed with its gas mileage.

Love My ECHO! - 2002 Toyota Echo
By Kevin2 - March 4 - 10:00 amThis is a fun little car to drive. Never a problem parking or driving in the city. People are surprised at the amount of interior space. I love having everything built in to the center console. I like how high the seating position is. Plenty of room for tall passengers and driver. I even enjoy the occasional visits to the gas station! Ha Ha!

GREAT COMMUTER CAR - 2002 Toyota Echo
By boggerguy - January 26 - 10:00 amBought the car specifically for commuting(gas mileage) it turned to be great..the car has 11.9 gal tank and I get about 400 miles to tank and thats going 80 mph everywhere. I also travel alot of dirst roads around so I developed a window alignment problem fixed by dealer... overall great commuter car highly recommend it

Its all good from here! - 2002 Toyota Echo
By Joshie - January 5 - 8:46 amThis car is the best car for your money. It is so roomy and has so much storage it seems unnecessary to have the amount that it does. I have had 5 people in my car and everyone fits comfortably. I am also 68" and I fit in with no problem. Although the fuel economy is not what is listed (28 city) I think I drive too fast to get what is listed, but highway seems very good. Even though this car is small it can sustain a speed hovering around 80 mph. This car is great.

Great Little Car - 2002 Toyota Echo
By Bert - November 13 - 1:03 amGreat car! I bought this car used from an individual. I have nearly 100,000 miles, and not a single problem. Comfy, roomy for a tiny package and great on gas!

Great around town, so-so on the road - 2002 Toyota Echo
By PetRock235 - October 26 - 2:03 amEconomical car, 30mpg avg, easily fits in tight parking spaces, pretty good around town. The ride is a little bumpy, and its noisy at highway speed. Acceleration is OK for on ramps but a little underpowered for climbing hills.
