  • Love my 4Runner, BUT - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

The new designed 4runner is amazing on the outside, but does have some flaws on the inside. I have the Limited 2WD with the V8 engine and get an average of 19 mpgs mostly in highway driving. The engine is quiet and powerful. The car is gorgeous from the front, but the rear is a bit less macho than the past models. The interior has some noticible flaws: 1) The cup holders are terrible 2) The seat belts are bad (they fall into the cushion and are hard to find. 3) No memory seats available. 4) Cannot get a CD changer with the navigation system. 5) No 3rd seat option.

i needed a winter car, something with AWD or FT4WD. i had a very bad experience with reliability of an audi and volvo (which i was replacing), so those were out. subarus were too small inside. i drove the 4runner after testing a honda pilot and acura mdx. i was impressed by the solidity of build, acceleration (its better than edmunds lets on) and the highway ride.

I have had this vehicle 4 months, one of which has been in the shop. The sunroof quit working and so did the dealership. I finally got the car back and the paint is peeling off of the front! 40K for this??? I should have bought a Hyundai!!

I bought this used in 2007 with 57,000 miles. It currently has 82,000 miles. I have had to replace the blower motor and AC relay ($500+). Also, there is a sulfur smell that happens when the rear window is down and also comes through the vents when driving. Toyotas answer is change the gas to a better grade, WHICH does not help. I bought the vehicle for its reliability factor and now looking at taking a loss and trading it in. Toyota should step up and fix this issue ASAP.

Great truck. Typical Toyota quality. The V8 4wd w/ X-REAS really flys and handles extreemly well. A nice ride on road and performs well off road. Edmunds review gives a thumbs down to the breaks... I disagee, it breaks very well and Im used to driving a sports car.

Just drove 2300 miles from California to Atlanta without a hiccup! No worries on long road trip when you have a reliable Toyota with you. Oh, and this is with 97K total miles.

So far the car handles well and performs all the basic functions for which it was purchased. The paint and appearance is good and the engine responsiveness (6 cyl.),to acceleration is very good. Major components work well.

  • 2003 4Runner Much Improved. - 2003 Toyota 4Runner

I already had a 2000 4Runner, so I was not looking to buy another one. Seeing the new 4Runners exterior did not have a magical effect on me, but after getting in side it, I had to have it. It is so more roomier, the back hatch door closes automatically and has a sensor to open it (no more dirty hands). I love my heated seats and the dual climate control is a must for a happy marriage. The stereo controls on the steering wheel and the new designed HVAC controls keep my eyes on the road. It handels better than the Land Crusier. The acceleration with the V8 is awesome! My insurance rates actually went down due to the side curtain air bags.

The V6 engine is much more powerful than I thought. It rides nice; looks nice. Fuel economy 18.9 and 20.7 on the first 2 tanks of gas. Only thing wrong-the passenger seat is not very comfortable. Other than that, I love it!
