This Year's Model Updates:

Two new models, the H6-3.0 L.L.Bean Edition and the H6-3.0 VDC, both featuring a more-powerful 3.0-liter engine, join the happy Outback family.

Pros:
  • The security of all-wheel drive, comfortable on pavement, capable on dirt, well-appointed interior.
Cons:
  • Questionable exterior styling, still not an SUV in terms of pure off-road capability.

  • Great car and an attention-getter - 2001 Subaru Outback

I drive this car all of the time. I sell insurance; so I am on the road alot. This is one smooth running car. I will be driving over eighty without even noticing it if I am not carefull. i wish that it was a little bit faster from a dead stop, but it such a good running car on the highway. My back does not hurt over long distances with this car as it has with other vehicles. I nearly always get lots of attention when I am in this car. It is a rare car and looks great. People of all ages will stare at it or say something good about it. My first trip to Florida got me 30 MPG on the highway when I set the cruise at the speed limit. Great Car!

THIS CAR I THINK IS THE BEST CAR ON THE ROAD,(APART FROM THE IMPREZA WRX) I DONT THINK IT LOOKS AS GOOD AS THE IMPREZA WRX, THE ONE I DROVE DIDNT HAVE THE GRILL ON THE BONNET WHICH WAS A DISSAPOINTMENT BUT THE POWER IS THERE! ALTHOUGH ITS A BIG CAR IT HANDLES LIKE A TRUE SMALL SPORTS CAR!

  • I finally found a car, I can trust !! - 2001 Subaru Outback

My daughter wanted to buy my 2001 Subaru. I told her "over my dead body" and I meant it literally. I have had my share of unreliable transportation over the years, one cars transmission even gave up, when we were driving it out of a showroom. When we went looking for a new car (this car was a demo so it was practically new), my husband (who takes care of our finances) almost didnt buy it. The salesman wasnt ready to budge another 100 dollars off. If we would have walked away from this car, I would have been heart broken. It is now 2008 and I think it has been in the garage maybe 4 times. I can depend on it day after day to get me to work, shopping, wherever. I will never take it for granted.

I like the car and would consider buying another. Good MPG, ride, reliability.

  • Good car overall - 2001 Subaru Outback

Good vehicle, no problems other than interior design issues. Im not crazy about the fact that you need to use high octane fuel, I assumed all economy cars used regular - oops! The seat heater toggle switch gets turned on accidentally, not so much a problem in the winter, but when its already warm its difficult to cool a warm seat that you are sitting on. The window switches are awkward; Im forever opening the back windows when my intention is to open the front. The drink holders are placed too far back, the driver has to look away from the road to replace a drink in the holder. The phone charger goes off when the vehicle isnt running; Im not crazy about that idea. Everything else is GREAT.

Finally a Subaru with decent power. Its fun to drive, AWD makes it safe and stable in rain or snow, very dependable. Rarely breaks down and very safe crash test results. Needs better drink holders for travel comfort.

  • Nice, solid ride - 2001 Subaru Outback

The Outback Limited sedan is a well-made, fun-to-drive car that handles poor weather, dirt roads and twisty turns like a champ. But its equally at home on the interstate, where it is rock-solid; I have to set the cruise to near the legal limit, otherwise, Ill be cruising at 90 mph without realizing it. Its got all you could ever want in a sedan: leather, sunroof, all-wheel-drive ... Even better once I ditched the Firestones for Michelin X-ones.

  • Outback rocks! - 2001 Subaru Outback

Got the Outback limited sedan for a steal at just under $18,000 because it had been sitting on the dealers lot for almost a year. I personally like the sedan design better than the Outback wagon design. Its a great car, with a classy, comfortable leather interior and a rugged all-wheel-drive system that doesnt mind a minor trail or two. Its not as fun to throw around in the slalom as my 2001 Forester, but part of that can be attributed to the fact that my Forester is a five speed, and youre stuck with an auto tranny in the limited sedan. The standard Firestones also dont grip as well as the Michelin X-ones I put on my Forester.

I love this car! Would recommend it to anyone!

  • Best Sport Utility Ever! - 2001 Subaru Outback

I researched for about a year before I made my purchase. I am now and always will be a Subaru owner. I try and sell people I know and dont know on these cars. Ive never had any major problems. This car has the best fuel economy, its comfy, its luxurious. I drove it in Washington in the snow every winter without getting stuck once ... Im a snowboarder! Now Im in Atlanta and it drives so wonderfully in the pouring rain. I feel very confident that my car and I will make it through just about anything.
