  • 2014 xt review - 2014 Subaru Forester
    By -

took delivery of my 2014 xt forester 3 days ago and already have 800 miles on it. in general i am very happy with my purchase. in broad strokes the 2013 forester is much prettier from the outside, but the interior of the 2014 is drastically improved. the regular 2014 forester is much more attractive from the outside, than the xt. that being said, i bought the xt for how it ran. very well. very quick and smooth. the xt can run on regular, but dont do it unless you have to b/c it will cost you more. 87 octane gets 19-22 city and 22-24 hwy. 93 octane gets 24-27 city and 28-31 hwy (hwy speed 68-78mph). huge difference in mpg for a little more at the pump. do it. so far, great car!!!

  • NOT A COLD WEATHER CAR! - 2014 Subaru Forester
    By -

I purchased this car in August. I had a 2010 Forester and loved it. When the new Foresters came out with the improved gas mileage, I bought one. I absolutely loved this car until November when winter hit. Mine wont defrost the windows or the windshield wipers properly. It doesnt heat up the interior of the car. The power windows freeze, and the cool engine light comes on after letting the car warm up and driving it for several miles. Due to the engine running so cold, my gas mileage has almost cut in half during these cold winter months. I have 7000 miles on it, but living in the North, cant keep it. Im extremely disappointed.

  • 2014 Subaru Forester 2.0XT Premium 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo CVT) - 2014 Subaru Forester

I bought the car (2014 Subaru Forester 2.0XT Premium 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo CVT)) on July 2013 after a lot of research and I am overall pleased. Acceleration is great in "S" mode but uses a lot of gas - average is 22.5mpg after 10,700 miles. Exterior design and 18" powder coated wheels are standout in the crowd of small size SUVs.

  • 14 XT possibly the best Forester ever. - 2014 Subaru Forester
    By -

The 14 Forester project leader vowed to improve last gen Forester in every way. He and his team have largely succeeded, for the 14 XT manages to ride, handle, accelerate, brake, and use fuel far better than the capable 09 XT it replaces. More like Lexus or euro car, the new XT outdoes most euros on interior packaging efficiency. Reliabilitys unknown as of yet but 14 build quality seems good with far fewer rattles and jiggles than in the older XT.

  • MPG much better than estimated - 2014 Subaru Forester
    By -

We have had our 2014 Forester for a year now and still love it. My wife hated the styling of all Subarus and refused to even test drive one until I tricked her into looking at the new Forester by telling her it was a Mitsubishi. She was pleased with the styling, amazed by how easy it was to drive (its like driving an awd glass bubble with the turning radius of a jeep) and completely shocked when I informed her that she was in a Subaru. It has performed wonderfully even in the 10 inch snows we got repeatedly last winter and has been a joy to own. On top of that I frequently break 40mpg on trips and overall average 34mpg with 50/50 highway city driving.

  • Using Oil ! - 2014 Subaru Forester
    By -

Disappointed with purchase of new Subaru 2014 Forester. I have had this car only 1 year, purchasing from local dealer. The vehicle is using oil between oil changes as other consumers note. The last occurrence was returning from out of town in the rain after midnight - light comes on - we are miles from anything open to purchase a quart of oil. Finally get to a 24/7 station, check oil - it is almost below oil stick!!!! This is 2,000 miles before the vehicle is due for another oil change!!!!!!!! Quite annoyed. Will see what Subaru does to correct this problem. So sorry I did not keep my Honda Odyssey Van, mileage 230,000, which never had oil burning issues, even with high mileage.

  • First Subaru - 2014 Subaru Forester

Overall I am pretty pleased and it feels like it is built well but time will be the true judge. The ride is quiet and I like the CVT where you are always in the right gear - well not literally but its nice to feather the RPMs for just the right power without stepping across gears. After about 1000 miles I pretty much get 24/32 MPG city/hwy and could probably get higher if I kept it below 70MPH on the hwy. The seats were comfortable on a 10 hour trip and the rear camera is a first for me and works well. If you come from a Ford sync system you will find the connectivity less robust and more challenging to set up. See additional suggestions below.

  • First 500 - 2014 Subaru Forester

I will come back to update in a few months but I wanted to get my initial ownership impressions out there. Pros: Engine/Turbo - makes a car this large really fun to drive Transmission - High torque CVT with SI modes is best CVT Ive driven. Not as fun as VW/Audis dual clutch DSG, but still very good. Interior Room/Space - Car feels much bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. Exterior Styling - Ive had three unrelated people tell me that the cars profile reminds them of a Porsche Cayenne - Ill take it! Cons: Sunroof: Rattles like crazy when open and doesnt have a tilt function. Seats: Not uncomfortable but not good either, even with the sport side bolsters

  • Some issues - 2014 Subaru Forester
    By -

I like this vehicle a lot, when the weather is warm. I started having issues at about 1,200 miles. When the weather is cold, is chugs, almost like the engine is missing, but there are no engine lights and the tach doesnt show any problems. Transmission? Doesnt seem to change even after the vehicle warms up. When the weather is not cold, runs great. Took it in to dealer but they think Im just not used to CVT. Downshift seems to drag a bit. Gas mileage is good.

  • Best of the small crossovers Ive tried - 2014 Subaru Forester
    By -

I am 65" and my wife is 53" and we wanted something that we could adjust to both be able to drive comfortably. We tried a Forester last year, but the visibility was nowhere near as good and the interior seemed very cheap. The 2014 is a huge improvement. I dont have to adjust the seat all the way back even with my 35" inseam legs. Visibility is much better due to the larger windows all around and the relatively straight roof line, unlike a lot of the competitors. After about 400 miles I am getting about 29 MPG of mostly highway driving. Overall I like the look and functionality. It isnt flashy, but is the most comfortable and practical of the crossovers out there.
