  • Happy with my Forester - 2014 Subaru Forester

Its really hard to review this car without context of having driven its competitors. To me its a very nice vehicle but Im not sure how it stacks up against other CUVs. Ill try to address the major topics. After 3900 miles it doesnt burn oil. MPG as advertised but drops with ambient temperature and speed over 65 mph. I can drive a long way without getting lower back pain so I consider this comfortable. Adequate storage where I can put a coffee in the center holder and water in the door (32 oz!). Storage under cargo area for ratchet straps and wifes purse. Disappointed with stiff ride at first but used to it now. Radio data system intuitive and sound quality adequate.

Lots to like about this vehicle if you do 50-50 street/highway driving and off-road mountain and desert roads of moderate difficulty from time-to-time. I wish it came with all-terrain tires rather than the stock Bridgestones. There are only 2, maybe 3 tires that will fit this vehicles 18 inch rims with oversized front disk brakes. Ive done the research and I think the Yokahama Geolander A-T-S is still the only all-terrain contender that will fit without troubles with the brakes or sidewalls. Gas mileage has averaged 23 mpg with about 70% highway and 30% streets, conservative accelerator and brakes.

  • Incessant Rattling - 2014 Subaru Forester
    By -

I have almost 4000 miles on my Forester Limited and from the day I brought it home the dashboard rattles and vibrates. I thought it was related to cold weather, but as the weather warms up it rattles worse. I have taken it into the dealership three times already and they tinker, pad and tighten with no improvement. I want to love this vehicle but it has eaten up and continues to eat up time and money in that I have to take off work and take it back to the dealer, only to have no improvement. The rattle seems to move but mainly in the vent or inside the odometer or MFD. Seems to be the whole dash. I am very disappointed. High rpms when accelerating, cheap carpet. Touchy gas pedal.

  • Very good, with only minor compaints - 2014 Subaru Forester

Very spacious for its size, and very comfortable front seats with good leg room in the back and very pleased with gas mileage. Not a bad long distance driving car and four people will be very comfortable for a six hour drive.

  • Great but could be better - 2014 Subaru Forester

The car is very responsive and easy to drive. The seats are comfortable and the rear seats have plenty of legroom. It feels very sporty for an SUV. Visibility is great -- the best out of any vehicles I have ever driven. I also test drove the CR-V and CX-5 and ultimately decided on the Forester for the power and handling and down right fun to drive factor. CR-V was boring .... CX-5 felt a little sluggish even with the latest engine, and it was harder to get in/out of due to high step in ... also back seats felt cramped. The upgraded harmon kardon stereo sounds just ok .... blue tooth works well though, buttons are small.

  • Good, but not excellent. Nav isnt........ - 2014 Subaru Forester

Picked up a 2014 FXT Touring in November 2013. Comfort is average but could be improved with power passenger seat. Gas mileage is a little better than my 2011 BMW 335xi 6MT, but only by 1-2 mpg- so around 22 city, 27 hwy. Big problem is 1990s navigation system that was delivered with Q3 2012 maps while Q1 2013 maps were already availble from the Subaru website - for $149!!!. Maps cant be downloaded to Macs, only PCs and require SD card reader. Subaru said theyd reimburse me for the maps, but really? Why should a vehicle produced in 10/2013 have Q3 2012 maps? Why cant the dealer keep current SD cards and why on earth would anyone pay Subaru and the wait? Cant wait to dump this hog.

  • Gas Guzzler - 2014 Subaru Forester

Love most aspects of the 2014 Subaru Forester but one of the key elements which influenced my decision to purchase this vehicle was the advertised 8.3 liter per 100 km gas mileage. Currently, I am averaging 13.6 liters per 100 km or 16 mpg. city driving. Not impressed and will put a For Sale sign on this vehicle if this hasnt improved significantly in the next 6 months.

  • Great little car - 2014 Subaru Forester

We have owned our Forester for a little over three months and put on about 3,500 miles. I thought I would try and give some insights that might not be apparent on a one hour test drive.

Three weeks ago I bought a 2.5i Premium PZEV 4dr SUV AWD with 4cyl CVT. So far I have driven this SUV for about 1100 miles and I am very happy with it. Love the comfort of the ride. I like the way it handles the road, pickup, braking and wet weather. Turning radius is great and road handling was excellent in highway. The view from drivers seat is great. So far my mileage is hovering around 25mpg highway and 21mpg in city. I expect it to give 27mpg combined and 32mpg highway as stated by Subaru once I put on more miles. I live in Chicago area and expect it to handle very well in snow. I will write another review after driving my Forester in winter.

  • 5,000 Mile Update - 2014 Subaru Forester

Now that Ive had my Forester long enough to be well acquainted, I thought I would leave an update. So far Im impressed with the overall performance, ride, quality and features. Im averaging just over 30mpg in 80/20 highway driving and I am quite impressed by the performance of the CVT transmission -- and I was always a manual transmission driver before this. Its no sports car (like my old Impreza), but it is generally comfortable, smooth-riding, relatively quiet and it handles pretty well for the SUV that it is. Its an excellent family-sized vehicle and a great value.
