Make Overview:

Scion is one of the youngest brands on the market -- which seems appropriate given that it's targeted at a very youthful demographic. Scion has quickly found a home in the hearts of buyers seeking its winning blend of value and style. The frosting on this cake is that Scion is part of the Toyota family, offering all the quality and reliability you'd expect from a marque with its parentage.

When Toyota realized early in the 21st century that it was losing market share in the younger demographic due to a stodgy image, the company took a chance and decided to spin off a new brand called Scion (its name means "descendant" or "heir to"). The first Scions, the xA and xB models, were introduced for the 2004 model year. These edgy little cruisers were first available only in the California market; after a staggered rollout, Scion vehicles became available nationwide.

Both the xA and xB were immediate hits, snapped up by young (or young at heart) buyers looking for high-quality, fun and affordable wheels. The boxy yet funky styling of the Scions provided a lot of passenger and cargo room for the cars' small footprints, making them ideal choices for campus and urban residents alike. They also coddled the youth market with flashy sound systems; Scion's stereos are among the best in the economy-car segment.

The following year, the Scion brood grew to include the tC. This compact but sporty coupe offered more performance relative to its older siblings, thanks largely to a more powerful engine. The xA has since been replaced by the xD, which carries on the quirky and customizable spirit of its predecessor. By 2012, Scion had introduced the tiny iQ city car and the sporty FR-S sport coupe.

In the interest of keeping things simple for buyers, Scions typically come in only one trim level. However, buyers have the option of customizing their rides with a host of dealership-provided accessories, such as a subwoofer, body kits and custom exhausts. Scion also offers no-haggle pricing wherein buyers pay the list (window sticker) price, thus streamlining the negotiation process.

So far, a simple and well-equipped model lineup, no-haggle pricing and a variety of dealer-added options have combined to make the Scion brand popular with American consumers. The economy car segment isn't typically the first place you'd look for stylish, fun-to-drive vehicles, but Scion has changed all that by offering cars rich with a seductive exuberance that belies their modest pricing.

  • For Older People, too - 2006 Scion TC
    By -

When I needed a new car, I checked Honda, Mazda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi. My grown son said check out Scion. I had not heard of it. Well, we took it out for a test drive and I was sold. When I test drive, I take my son along and have him drive while I sit in the back seat. If I like a car sitting in the back seat, I know I will like it sitting in the front seat. A year later, I still enjoy driving my Scion so much. My son said that if I decide to get rid of it (ha ha) he gets first right over his three sisters. The price is incredible for all the features you get. One complaint - stop marketing to young people - old people love it too! Thank you Scion! Baby Boomer.

The Scion XB is an affordable vehicle that is easy to drive and there is ample leg and head room. It rides comfortably and I love the fact that the rear seats go down when more room is needed for carrying large items. And despite the fact that its only a 4 cylinder vehicle, it carried 4 average sized adults up a hill with no strain to the engine. And the automatic transmission is so good, you can barely feel it shifting gears.

  • Awesome Car!! - 2005 Scion XB

I got rid of my high maintenance german car (a fully loaded 03 passat) to get this car. I have a five year old who plays every sport and is always making a mess of the car while I drive a TON of mileage around town...its fun to drive, handles well, gets great gas mileage, no expensive maintenance, etc. I added leather to mine and they even put it on the doors and it really dresses it up as well as my 6 spoke wheels. Its just a great solid car/truck.

  • GOTTA LOVE IT - 2005 Scion XB

WE BOUGHT OUR SCION IN 2003, ONE OF THE FIRST, FRESH OFF THE FREIGHTS. THE MINUTE WE SAT IN IT, WE KNEW THIS WAS THE VEHICLE FOR US. YOU EITHER HATE IT OR GOTTA LOVE IT....WE LOVE IT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS VEHICLE FOR SOMEONE WHO IS ON A LIMITED BUDGET, BUT IN NEED OF A NEW VEHICLE. IT MAY LOOK SMALL ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT VERY ROOMY ON THE INSIDE.

  • Love it, hate the wait for delivery - 2005 Scion TC
    By -

I have had my TC for about a month. I went to the dealership and they had none available for immediate delivery (automatic transmission). I had to wait but it was worth it! Everyone asks about it and I would recommend this car to anyone interested in a great value that does not look cheap! The car is excellent and a smooth ride!

WOW best describes the Scion xB. It has lots of room, sufficient get up and go for a 4-cylinder car, and you gotta love that gas mileage. I got 31 mpg on the first tank of gas.

  • Great little Car - 2009 Scion XB
    By -

Great around town car. The digital speedo is the best I have ever seen. The instrument panel has excellent visibility in bright sun or dark of night. The interior is very roomy. Great for "big" people. Plenty of head room. As much room as the old 60s cars. It come with all the important options, side airbags, cruise control, combo shift auto tranny, excellent radio, The 2.4L engine is a joy to drive very peppy. The under the hood quality is the best I have ever seen.. The rear seats are very roomy, even for big people. Rear Seats down lots of cargo room. The mileage meter shows 25 mpg around town, 30/35 freeway (meter included). Very Happy with car. My wife loves it.
