This Year's Model Updates:

In an effort to get buyers under 30 into its dealerships, Toyota launches an all-new division called Scion. The brand will eventually grow to three models, but for now two are offered; one of these is a small but well-equipped five-door hatchback called the xA. Scion will use a no-haggle sales strategy and give buyers ample opportunity to customize their xAs, drawing upon a list of over three dozen dealer-installed options.

Pros:
Cons:
  • The cool stuff costs extra, modest passing power with automatic transmission, no cruise control.

  • My first new car - 2004 Scion xA
    By -

I am a 55 year old widow. This Scion was sitting in the window and it was love at first sight. When the pleasent young man described all the features to me it was like they made it for me! I drove away with it 3HOURS later and I love it! People have actually stopped me at red lights to ask me what kind of car it was and to tell me how much they like it. Even my 3 grown children were pleased at my choice for my very first brand new car. It is so comfortable and so much fun to drive. I would reccomend the Scion to any one who wants a good looking, fun car with praticality.

  • Great first car - good long commuter - 2004 Scion xA

I purchased this car not for its looks (which are decent), its cargo capacity (which is small but again decent - took 15 medium sized parcels and a dolly with the rear seats down), or its numerous standard features (great CD sound system, AC, power everything), but for its great mileage! I commute 50 miles to and from work each day, and I gotta have a gas sipper! My last Toyota, a 4Runner, lasted 14 years and 300000 miles for losing the head gasket, but the mileage was half what Im getting with the SCIONl. I think Ill like this little chihuahua!

  • A New Driver Must Have!~^_^~! - 2004 Scion xA

The car looks super cute and the size is easy for new driver to handle. I am a new driver. It saves gas, it saves u money and it looks great. The car gives u more flexibility since the seats at the back can be pulled down easily so u can buy as much groceries as u wanna to. Little effort is needed if u want to accelerate your car. Ull love this car if u live in San Francisco since the parking space is so scared in the city -_-; I love this car and all of my friends love my car too....What are u waiting for??? If u need more room in the car...check out XB! I feel great when i test drive that car since the interior is brighter than XA and it is more roomy.

  • Bad Wheel Bearings and Tires - 2004 Scion xA
    By -

There is a problem with the xAs tires. The 185/65r 15s that it comes with are hard to find and very costy. Also, its wheel bearing are too light for the car. Toyota had this problem with the Echo as well.

  • Needs reliability improvements - 2004 Scion xA

Bought a leftover in March of 2005. Ive put on 55,000 miles since then. Had to replace both rear wheel bearings. The little Scion requires a whole hub assy. with integral reluctor be purchased, as the unit cannot be disassembled. $350.00 each. Add in some labor and it gets expensive fast. A cracked heater core also came at 44,000 miles. Wheel bearing failures and heater core breakage are not common failure modes on modern cars. The fact that the parts are not simple, reasonably priced or factory covered items makes me say, "Stay away from this car." I dont plan to get another one of these. If Scion recalls these and fixes them I might change my mind. Right now, no way.

the car is just sooo fun! my parents bought for me as a graduation gift and im glad they did. they opted to buy me a solara but somehow the fun and funkyness of the scion XA caught their eye. the car is great and gets good mileage! my parents put in a lot of extra features which might be a lil pricey but it looks great. it makes every car unique and all.

  • I Love my Scion xA - 2004 Scion xA

Ive only had my Scion xA for a couple of months, but I love it! The xA has a nice, smooth ride and it handles great in bad weather! I have yet to see any other Scions on the road in my area. Lots of people mistake in for a Mini Cooper, but Im quick to tell them that its a Toyota made car. In comparison to other cars, the xA is much better than the Ford Focus (we have one of those too) and the new Chevy Aveo. It comes standard with TONS of features like Pioneer CD/MP3 player, power everything, remote keyless entry, etc. I even had a sun/moonroof installed! Not too shabby for a lil car! I love this car and hope others will enjoy driving it as much as I do.

in total, there is not a better car on the market that gives more bang for the buck.

  • Grade A for XA - 2004 Scion xA
    By -

The Scion XA is a fun, reliable car with great fuel economy and versatility (i.e. transporting five passengers or putting the seats down and taking dogs and gear to the beach.) Great for long trips, always comfortable, and always good for drawing just the right amount of attention from passersby. "What kind of car is that?" Ive never seen one before. It has also really retained its value very well, despite the high mileage I put on it! Well done, Scion XA (aka MiniCooper on steroids)!
