This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, the 9-3 convertible has been given the same full makeover the sedan received last year. The convertible is available in Arc and Aero models and equipped only with the 210-horsepower engine. The highline Vector sedan has been renamed the Aero, and the midlevel Arc sedan now comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission, rather than a six-speed. Bi-xenon headlights are a stand-alone extra on all 9-3s, while rear parking assist is now available as a non-package option on the sedan. The Sport Wheel Package for the Linear and Arc now includes a tire-pressure monitor.

Pros:
  • Balanced ride and handling characteristics, frugal yet powerful engines, generous passenger room, class-leading trunk space.
Cons:
  • Some turbo lag at lower speeds, interior lacks upscale look, not as vaultlike as some of its European competitors, front-wheel drive a disadvantage against rear-wheel-drive competitors for performance fans.

This is a surprisingly good car. The man-transmission w/2t engine is very impressive. Getting after 2,000 miles,29.2mpg. The comfort level is high & base options are impressive, esspecially the 3 yrs scheduled maintenance and great Incentive and dealer that we worked with (Joe P). I compared it too: Passat TDI(ok car,w/nice options,Auto-stick is ok,driving in auto showed major Turbo lag though). No deal since most dealers in town were hard pressed to take $500 off sticker,Mercedes C320Sedan(option packages-over priced),Audi A4-no response from dealer via email,Mazada 6-boring ride to me,Acura TSX-only could get $500 off.

This car is excellent, a litle turbo lag, but if you control the foot, you can made amazing acelerations, is fun to drive, the driver seat is rigth, the stability is correct, the sensations is like a airplane without wings, you feel that you are drive a premium car.

So far this has been an excellent buy. The only problem has been with the door locking system. The passenger rear door lock malfunctioned which took three trips to the dealership to correct. They replaced the physical lock assembly and reloaded to door lock program to the computer. the trunk pressure sensitive release latch hasnt worked correctly since new. Mileage in town is great about 23mpg. On the highway it is about 32-33 if you can keep it at 74mph. I think the styling is best in its class. Saab charges extra for the metallic paints, but I dont see the value or quality for the premium.

Great convertible! Shopped BMW 330 & Merc CLK. Saab had more value for the money, plus you dont see it everywhere like the BMW. Great engine and pickup with auto trans and paddle shifters. Most comfortable seats, except for Volvo C70. Car handles like a dream, takes hard turns with ease, handles rough roads well, 100 times better than the old model. No turbo lag, and really quick take-off when using the manual shift mode. Everything in this car has been well thought out. Thanks to Saab for a great alternative to the aging 330ci and over-priced CLK.

I have had this car for three weeks now and the smile has not left my face everytime I get behind the wheel. The performance is terrific in both the acceleration and handling. The styling both inside and out are understated and sophisticated.

  • Still Love it After All These Years.... - 2004 Saab 9-3

Versatile, luxurious, and quick. I drive this car for business--bringing clients along, making long trips, etc. and its a comfortable and faithful performer. Given the choice between a 1 hour flight and a four hour drive, I drive. Great on the highway, quiet, powerful and safe. Oddly, I also use it to haul things. The roof rack goes on and off in minutes and can hold 220 pounds: thats a few sheets of plywood, or enough 2x4s to stud a new playroom for my kids. I also installed the towing hitch (myself) and occasionally hook up a trailer to gather/move antiques and such. And theres room for actual adults in the back seat for trips up to an hour. What more could I ask for?

Have the 9-3 convertible about a week, and cant stop smiling! This car is fun to drive, and every where I go people come up and say what a great looking car. If your looking at convertibles, do youself a favor and test drive the Saab.

This car has performed extremely well. It has the handling of a real sports car but rides like a tourning car. The body styling is excellent and when it rains hard down here it handles very well.
