  Not a good trade-in value - 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport

  With all the money spent on the vehicle, I was sorry to find out that my Pontiac Montana had virtually no trade-in value. The dealer from whom I purchased the vehicle did not want to give me more than 1500.

  Want a "nickel and dime you to death" vehicle? Buy one of these. Both headlight covers have fallen off, $180 per light, intake manifold gasket blown after 32,000 miles (part was on national backorder for months), $800.00 to fix. Driver side window disfunctional. Clock light in radio not working, had to replace entire radio, $350.00 to fix. No satisfaction from GM, should be a recall on the headlight covers, everone is having problems with them. Should be a recall on the intake gasket, none as of yet. Id never buy another one of these.

  Like to drive it. Nice features. Good on fuel. Handling and comfort are very good. Reliability is poor. Numerous problems...power doors, power windows, fuel injectors, intake manifold gaskets, rear wiper motor, now seized engine at 71,000 miles due to coolant leaking into crankcase. Pontiac is paying for 1/2 of over $5,000 worth of repairs to engine. Very discouraging.

  Reliable - 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport

  Ive had my Trans Sport for about 4 years now and I would drive it anywhere with no fear of it "breaking down" or not getting good mileage. I get about 26-28 mpg on the hwy and about 20-24 in the city. Ive had nothing but pleasure from driving both of my Pontiacs. I had a 1995 Grand Am that was also an awesome vehicle. Ive taken multiple road trips in both and trust them completly to get my family there and back safely.

  Vehicle Good, Service Stinks - 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport

  Purchased with 58,000 km (Canada). We also purchased warranty to cover electronic gizmos. Biggest problem, power sliding door. Took to be serviced, dealership claimed the motor was dead - replacement cost $1,800Cdn or cut the power cables. What about the extended warranty, oops, not covered. Surprise. We cut the cables. A few weeks later someone pushes the door open button and surprise, the motor is running. Probably not a motor problem but a problem getting power to the motor. Too late now, the cables are cut. Other than this weve done some normal maintenance, but nothing major. Did replace one of the headlight covers. Now has 107,000 km.

  Hard to replace - 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport

  Purchased in 98. While we did experience the lovely Dex-cool challenge & intake manifold gasket problems, I have loved my van. Faced with the challenge of finding a new vehicle 11+ years later, few seem to match the bells and whistles we got on our Montana, nor the mileage for the size of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the engineers responsible for it are now likely unemployed - we didnt qualify for Cash for Clunkers due to the great mileage. Vehicle aged well, is still sound, durable, and comfortable, but starting to have small maintenance problems, prompting us to get a new vehicle. The perfect vehicle made for my familys use. Got us through the travelling years (soccer,football,camping)

  We also had to have our head gasket replaced at about 70,000 miles. This was very disappointing! Luckily I caught it about 3 weeks before my extended warranty expired. Other than this major problem, the only other issues weve had are trim pieces breaking and dealing with squeaks and general fit-n-finish problems. The display of our radio just went out about a month ago. In all this vehicle was good in 1998; however, there are MUCH better choices available now. An updated model is due soon, but its basically the same van with only a few minor tweaks. Its not a new design. Check out the competition 1st. Rebates arent everything.

  Never again - 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport

  This is the 2nd Montana I have owned and it has been a headache from the start. Examples are, brakes locked up making vehicle undrivable, replaced fuel injectors, replaced load leveler shocks and pump twice, power windows on both sides stopped working. Power side door wont stay closed, auto locks do not operate on side doors, lights on steering wheel quit working, outside temp readout says 20 degrees in the summer, intake manifold leaks, tailgate latch no longer works. After contacting Pontiac about all the problems I have had they told me I didnt qualify for a loyal customer discount on my next purchase even though this was my 6th Pontiac purchased. The quality of this car is a joke.

  Good Van the only thing is wen something does wear out it cost a arm and a leg ( intake gasket, wheel bearings, brakes)
