This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Prix gets more muscle for '99 with low-restriction air-induction components giving the naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 five more horsepower, to 200. This engine is standard on the GT (sedan and coupe) and optional on the SE sedan. A traction control indicator and on/off button are now standard on GTP models. Minor revisions are in order inside, with front-door courtesy lamps and a six-speaker sound system now standard, and an eight-speaker Bose audio unit and OnStar mobile communications system optional. Outside, a rear deck spoiler is standard on the GT model, and two colors have been added to the 1999 exterior paint chart.

Pros:
  • Strong powertrains, sporty styling, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Overstyled interior, cheap-looking dashboard plastic.

  • I love my car - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

This car is amazing so far. I have only had it for a few weeks now but I love it. Its reliable, even at 112,000 miles it still has great pick up. My next car I buy is def. going to be a Grand Prix.

Really good car! Bought at 112000 now has 185000. No problems whatsoever except for an O2 sensor. Still picks up and goes. 3.8l engines are bulletproof in my opinion.

  • Grand Prix A.K.A Tranny Problems - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

I love this car but hate it at the same time. The car really is a eye catcher. This is my 2nd prix first one (96)tranny went out at 110k, my current one went out 111k and then went a 2nd time at 135k. I almost forgot I was told the 99 Prixs only fit 99 trannys. Fun fun. The frames on them are crap so if you wanna add more horsepower good luck on not cracking the frame. Headlights fog up with dirt. Good luck getting up any hills in the snow without all 4 studded tires.

  • Great Performer if taken care of properly! - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

Ive had 1 major and a few minor problems with my coupe. Im currently the second owner and bought it when it had 84,000 miles. Unfortunately the engine blew which was likely the result of poor driving from the previous owner or myself when showing off at times :( Since then it has been replaced with another engine with 30,000 miles less then the previous one, and I must say this has been the best performance car Ive driven! And Ive driven 15 to 20 different cars in my time. Handling is great, has lots of room for a coupe, and has ability for modifications on a smaller budget. Gas is average, but factory tail lights are poorly made and may leak in time. Some interior detail is poorly made.

I got this car with 62,000 miles on it. Said goodbye when it reached 105 K. The car had good performance by late 90s standards, best 0-60 I did was 8.2 seconds. Steering was decent, but pedal feel was mushy and the headlights were very poor. Fuel economy was mediocre, about 24-26 hwy. Ride quality was average. Liked the exterior styling, especially the tail lights. Interior was not very good, the door and dashboard panels were cheap. Poor assembly, each power window went out at least once, and flimsy cup holders. Besides the windows, other issues included an intake manifold problem, loss of ABS and traction control after a couple of years, and the stereo went out.

  • Good looking car! - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

I bought my 99 Grand Prix GT mainly because of its good looks. Still looks good! I got the four door model because I thought I might have a family one day. I have been pretty much happy with my GT. The trunk leaked, but they fixed that. The transmission started slipping on me after the 3 year warrenty was up. But recently I complained so much that they fixed it,(it had a bad throdel body in the tranny) even though it was out of warrenty.(5 years old, 36,000 miles). Now that the tranny is fix, (what a relief!) Im happy. My GP seems to be put together pretty good for the most part. Hope it stays that way. It has been really good for an American car

  • Nice but has its flaws - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

Overall decent buy. I bought the car wit about 153,000 miles mostly highway miles. I now hav 160 and so far had a dirty EGR valve, bad O2 sensor, and a faulty crank shaft position sensor. The position sensor cost $160 to fix. The O2 sensor was a great opportunity to upgrade to a performance sensor $80. The car attaches itself to you. Great looking, and great open throttle sound bouth inside and out. Keeps up with many newer tuner cars!

Purchased new in Oct 1999. Was my 3rd Pontiac (had Bonnevilles, all driven up to 135K-155K miles). Every option except moon roof. I thought I made a mistake, when at 6K miles the water pump went. I was surprised, but dealer fixed under warranty. Now at 43K miles, and driven by an adult female, the only servicing we have had has been front brakes, and oil changes every 3,000 miles. I just put 4 brand new tires on (Goodyear Assurance) and the car rides very well. The fuel MPG around town is 15, but on the open road it will do 22-25. We baby this car, do not abuse it in any way. If you take care of the car, it will last. Overall, I have been satisfied. Resale value will be poor (buyer perception)

Bought it last year it had over 225k in one month had to replace the engine due to blown gasket then water pump went out 4 months latter I had to replace both front hub assemblies tie rod the transmission has a defect the pressure control solenoid and torque converter clutch so when it gets hot every few days it shits hard the only time my engine light come on is due to the tranny shifting hard and early 4 gear 25 mph running at 800 rpms car acts like a manual had to replace the front sway bar snapped on both sides no biggie has a vacume leak in dash had to replace a hose for the evap the car wont start if its been hot just turns over with little firing idles at 2 to 400rpms then fix itself
