This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Prix gets more muscle for '99 with low-restriction air-induction components giving the naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 five more horsepower, to 200. This engine is standard on the GT (sedan and coupe) and optional on the SE sedan. A traction control indicator and on/off button are now standard on GTP models. Minor revisions are in order inside, with front-door courtesy lamps and a six-speaker sound system now standard, and an eight-speaker Bose audio unit and OnStar mobile communications system optional. Outside, a rear deck spoiler is standard on the GT model, and two colors have been added to the 1999 exterior paint chart.

Pros:
  • Strong powertrains, sporty styling, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Overstyled interior, cheap-looking dashboard plastic.

This is a great car. It is obviously not a high performance sports car, but it does have that feel.

This is far and away the best car Ive owned. Recently the lighting behind one of the instrument panel displays went out. That is the first and only problem of any sort Ive experienced with this vehicle and Ive driven it for almost 3 years and put about 50,000 miles on it. The car is a pleasure to drive. Acceleration is outstanding, nearly on a par with Corvettes I’ve owned. Handling is good for a car of this size. It is not quite as nimble in city traffic and parking as a smaller car, but not enough so as to make driving to and from work unpleasant. We’ve found the car to provide more than adequate interior room to make long family trips pleasant.

I purchased this car in January of 05 with less than 80k miles on it. I had to replace the Supercharger coupler (bought at ZZperformance.com for $40) right after I bought it and I had it fully serviced at my local dealership. I love to drive this car! I recently owned a 99 Grand Prix GT and when you go from 200HP to 240HP it makes a big difference! It is fully loaded, HUD, Bose, 12-disc changer, heated seat (great in the winter), sunroof, everything. The only problem I have noticed is the display on the radio gets confused and shows weird numbers, but only for a few seconds after start- up. I have heard of several GPs doing this with or without Bose. This wont be my last Grand Prix!

I totaled my 97 Camry and needed a car fairly fast, saw it, liked it, bought it. Fit and finish is pathetic, there is plenty of horses when I need them, however that comes at a fuel premium. Window motors, window switches, cup holder broken from normal use, Drivers window regulator, all had to be replaced. Leather is complete junk, sure if you dont sit in it, it lasts. I am meticulous with my car maintenance, however the engine makes ticking noise, burns oil, and the breaks squeek constantly, even when they are new. Its a shame Detroit cant figure out how to build a car like the Japanese, the Sweeds or the Germans. Im selling for a new Volvo.

  • Great car for the money - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

I purchased this new with every possible option minus the CD changer. It is a low miles car (6K per year). The only problems have been window motor (couple times) and poorly operating seat heater. It does have a rattle in the dash. Engine performance and handling is great. I do wish that I got the supercharger in hindsight. Interior capacity is very spacious, and there are no complaints here. I would definitely buy from Pontiac again. With all of the creature comforts, engine power, exterior styling, good reliability, and relatively low price, you cannot beat this car.

  • My Red Pontiac Grand Prix! - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

I love my car. It is red w/the 3.8 V6 and the decklid spoiler! I love to drive it everywhere. I always get compliments. My car has 77,000 miles on it and I get asked if it is brand new. It has ice cold A/C w/ 5 air vents! I would never trade it in for anything but another new designed Grand Prix. I feel safe and more than comfortable. I was once at a stoplight next to a new mustang, Sorry, but I left him and his pony in the dust!

Just sold this car for a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse. It was a good car. Had it for 3 years. It ws reliable, sporty for a midsize sedan. It had good styling and was fun to drive.

  • Tired of American Auto Manufacturers - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

This vehicle was purchased by me about three years ago. I have consistenly gotten 27 MPG. I drive my Grand Prix hard and it still runs like new. However, the whole Wide-Track gimmick is just plain lies. I have driven alot of cars that can out handle this car that arent even GTs. .78 G on the skid pad is a joke. As far as braking goes, these cars are terrible. Noisy and innefective is what I call them. The engine is torquey and strong. It would be well suited for a 5 speed though. This has been a very reliable car, but I would not reccomend it to anyone. There are any number of import cars that are far superior to this car.
