This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Prix underwent a redesign for 2004, but those familiar with the big sedan will find its blend of performance and comfort hasn't changed much.

Pros:
  • Strong supercharged V6, nimble handling, attractive gauges, easy-to-use controls, big trunk, fold-flat front-passenger seat.
Cons:
  • Build and materials quality still needs work, tight backseat, noisy engine, not enough storage or cupholders, no auto climate control.

Back seat? Forget it, its way too small for any distance. Engine is quite powerful and it gets up and goes. Comfortable driving position for longer trips hard to find. Some minor rattles and shakes. Brakes are in need of work after 19K miles, am having a problem with warped rotors that make brakes pulsate when stopping or slowing from higher speeds like 65 plus. Fit and finish is OK but not great.

I loved the look of the GP when I first saw it, and traded a 2000 Accord V6 for a new 04, black with chrome wheels. After 58K miles, the GP has been just as reliable as the Accord (which is to say zero problems) and it rides quieter and feels more stable on the highway than the Honda. However its fun to drive when I want it to be: acceleration is fine, and new Bridgestone Potenza tires helped the handling (the standard Goodyear Eagle LS tires are cheap squealers in Eagle disguise). My GP is a car I still look back at after parking it. The only disappointment is that if I were to trade-in the GP today, I would get much less for it than an Accord that cost me exactly the same.

I have noticed that my doors tend to sound odd when opening or closing. Worse in the cold. Its a creaking noise. Also, I know its pretty standard now a days but the white film thats all over the windows from running air or defrost. Its almost impossible to get off.

86,000 miles and it runs like a tiger. The starter was damage at the 75,000 and it damage also the battery, besides that, only regular maintenance and tires. I use it to travel a lot with my heavy friends (4 people in car and is loaded like 900 pounds plus the baggages weight) and it moves nicely. When alone (140 pounds) I race with everything on the street (Won a lot). The car have a lot of power, is very nice to drive, it have a nice look (family + sport at the same time). The interiors look super cool, are very confortable and the factory stereo sounds very nice.

We bought this car after driving an SUV for four years. And I am so happy that we did! I love it! There is more room in the trunk of this car than my SUV! The seats are so comfortable! My husband is over 6 foot tall and has no trouble getting comfortable in either front seat. I just think it looks very sleek and stylish without the high price tag. I wish there were cup holders in the back, but other than that I have only good things to say about this car. And when it is time to trade it in, I will be getting another one!

This is my 3rd body style of the Grand Prix. Im most disappointed with the ride. My last two have run to 125,000 miles and have had to nothing but replace the struts on the 99 model after 100,000 miles. Prior to replacing the struts, the car rode like an OLD Dodge pickup --- Every bump was felt. The 04 was purchased with 1,100 miles and rides like an OLD Dodge Pickup. I feel every bump. A dealership has aligned, balanced, etc. & still rides like a truck. Very happy with the 95 & the 99; Severely Disappointed with the 04!!!

With the 2004 Grand Prix GTP Pontiac has taken big strides forward and a few small steps backward. Starting off with fresh and exciting sheetmetal the GTP continues its promise with exhilirating performance even using regular gas. This is a confidence-inspiring vehicle that is fun to drive. The TAPShift feature is meant for spirited driving but here in northeast Ohio I find it especially useful for driving in snow. Minor irritations include the wierd assortment of plastic interior materials and the elimination of the electrochromic rear- view mirror and dual climate controls for driver and passenger.

  • 2 Years Now and still like new - 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

This is my second GP. My first was an 01. I love these cars. I drive a lot and am pretty hard on my cars, My GPs have both handled it without a issue. Not one other car I have owned has proven to be as reliable. In comparison to my 01, Pontiac seems to have chosen the right course to take and made all the right improvements to keep my coming back. The handling, options, and price are great. I traded my 01 in after 3 yrs with 160000 trouble free miles and sitting at 70000 on this one after 2 yrs, I may have over 200000 when Im ready to trade and I imagine it will be even harder to trade this one in without a future predicted for the Grand Prixs.
