Overview & Reviews
The Grand Prix gets more muscle for '99 with low-restriction air-induction components giving the naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 five more horsepower, to 200. This engine is standard on the GT (sedan and coupe) and optional on the SE sedan. A traction control indicator and on/off button are now standard on GTP models. Minor revisions are in order inside, with front-door courtesy lamps and a six-speaker sound system now standard, and an eight-speaker Bose audio unit and OnStar mobile communications system optional. Outside, a rear deck spoiler is standard on the GT model, and two colors have been added to the 1999 exterior paint chart.
- Strong powertrains, sporty styling, fun to drive.
- Overstyled interior, cheap-looking dashboard plastic.

Excedllent used car, fun to drive! - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By GiGi - December 11 - 9:46 pmI needed another car, wasnt in a position to buy a new car right, saw this car and liked it right away. Ive always liked the Grand Prix, they look so darn good. Ive only had mine for a couple of months but so far I have put about 1500 miles on it and have had no problems with it even though it is a 9 year old car. The previous owner took care of it and I love to drive it. It has power when I need it. It is roomy enough for my three children, it feels like a big car on the inside but it is sporty looking on the outside. It burns more gas than my previous car, which is to be expected since my Mazda was a 4 cylinder and this is a V6. I just love this car.

I wish I could use my window! - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Kitkay - December 10 - 9:23 pmI bought my Grand Am in 2000 with 5,000 miles on it. It was all fine until 2003. If you have automatic windows they are terrible. All that hold them in place is a piece of plastic. Which through all the hot weather in TX make it weak and they break. You of course cant buy just the plastic piece that breaks you have to buy a whole motor replacement which cost between $80- $150. I had to replace both of them within two years of each other. Also the Door just mysteriously started not to open. The rear-view mirror fell off and the headlight bulbs are a pain to change. Also the transmission fliud has to be changed at a dealership.

Great GTP Sedan - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Mallified - September 21 - 10:00 amI have enjoyed my GTP since I bought it. The performance is awesome. Upgrade to the Borla exhaust system and a Thrush cold air induction system to get a significant increase in accelleration. I love driving my GTP. Plenty of room front and back. Very comfortable on long hauls too.

99 GTP 2door - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Royfact - September 19 - 4:30 amFor what is otherwise a basic GM offering, the GTP has turned out to be a pretty decent car. The styling will never be classic but it looks reasonable. The interior design is better than average for GM offerings. I especially like the Heads-up display and the steering wheel controls. The seats are comfortable and easily adjusted. The car is good off the line but great in the midrange with its supercharger. The engine isnt sweet-sounding like some, but its rock-solid reliable. Gas mileage is about 22.5 mpg in 40/60 city/highway driving.

Overall a great car - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By Stan S - August 17 - 10:00 amI like the car, the only complaint I have is the brake discs rusted pre-maturely, had to be replaced at 19000 miles, and not covered by warranty

Dependable, Powerful, Comfortable... - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By ravenking - August 14 - 9:16 pm...What more could you want? My car has given me nothing but joy since I bought it. I commute 30 minutes to and from school every day, and this car makes it much more comfortable and fun than any other I have driven. It is fast, smooth, and very useful. I opted for the four door because it is more practical, but it is actually the same size and has the same looks as the coupe, just more convenient.

Detroit can build a great car - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix
By DB - March 20 - 3:56 pmThis is my second Grand Prix. my 1992 went 155,000 mi before I traded it in for the 1999. At 165,000 mi this GTP is still going strong. Aside from typical wear items: tires, brakes, belts, bulbs, etc, all that was replaced was the fuel pump at 156,000. The 3.8L motor is a strong GM plant, runs strong, still gets 32mpg hwy 20 city and uses minimal oil (1/2 qt between changes). The body integrity remains tight. People are amazed to hear the year and mileage when they see the condition. Very roomy in interior and trunk cargo area.
