Overview & Reviews
Very minimal changes this year as Pontiac concentrates on Grand Prix and Trans Sport launches. Air conditioning is now standard. Also, three new colors are added.
- Cheap thrills, sporty image, fun Twin Cam engine
- Aging platform, poor handling, uncomfortable seats

great economical car - 1997 Pontiac Grand AM
By supermom - January 29 - 7:03 amI have 155,000 miles on this car and it still runs smooth. My family has used this car for years and now it is being passed down to my son who is off to college in July. We replaced the alternator and have had problems with the window motors. Other than that, excellent car and looks great!

My l997 Pontiac Grand AM SE V6 IS A 10 - 1997 Pontiac Grand AM
By Pamela Brandt - January 8 - 5:23 pmI bought my 1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE brand new from the dealer. It has been a wonderful and reliable vehicle. This V6 3.1 liter engine vehicle never breaks down, body style is sharp, made very well. It drives as smooth today as the day that I drove it out of the showroom.

Great car - 1997 Pontiac Grand AM
By ohiocpa - January 6 - 2:00 amAfter 6-1/2 years and over 90,000 miles, this car is still running great and still looks great. I had to replace the fuel pump last year (approximately $700), but it had over 85,000 miles at the time. Other than that, Ive had no problems with this car. Other people who have borrowed my car comment about how easy it is to drive and how well it handles.

Best car ever owned - 1997 Pontiac Grand AM
By tom - August 30 - 10:00 amI bought this 97 grand am in fort hood, tx back in 2005, mind you car already 8 years old. Make a long story short 13 years later and 182,000 miles the only thing I have majorly replaced was the cooling intake and flex pipe by manifold. I see a lot of complaints about this car, make a long story short reason this car is at 182,000 and still going change oil right at 3000 miles. Injector cleaner every other fill up, plugs done at every 5000 miles and etc. Once again best car I ever had

Grand Am Review - 1997 Pontiac Grand AM
By M T Shipley - August 4 - 12:26 amExcellent selection for Quality, Safety, and Reliability. There are things I like about it more than other more extensive vehicles I have owned.

Works for me - 1997 Pontiac Grand AM
By Ryan Smith - April 17 - 2:00 amI love it. It has great acceleration, Ive had nothing go wrong with it, and I like the style. I just drove 2000 miles on vacation and it still runs like a champ. All my friends love it too, they want to drive it and I have had many offers for it.

Great car overall - 1997 Pontiac Grand AM
By HazeConstruction - November 30 - 10:00 amThe car is great. Its been to Florida several times. Its much more fun and comfortable to drive than a Cadilac Seville. Ive had to replace the passenger window motor ($150) and the shift column assembly ($325) in the five years Ive owned it. Brakes and tires are worn fairly quick. Its well worth the little extra surprises in my book!

Love my GT - 1997 Pontiac Grand AM
By PrplgrandamGT - November 11 - 10:00 amI have a purple Grand Am GT right now and have owned it for a year. Except for having to replace the driverside window (which I guess is pretty common in Grand Ams), I have had a great experience with it. In fact, I love it so much that Im checking into buying a 2003 Grand Am GT.

Great car for 7 years - 1997 Pontiac Grand AM
By prm1967 - June 14 - 10:00 amMy 1997 SE V6 still runs strong and smooth. It has required extremely little attention besides synthetic oil changes every 6 months. Overall red paint still looks great. No gosh-awful chrome/aluminum/titanium interior trim that seems every nicer vehicle has to have these days!!
