This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

Vehicle 2006 Pontiac G6 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 4A) Review 1) I have also had my G6 for almost 3 years and at around 63K I too had the issue where the transmission lips/jerks sometimes when it switches gears. Interesting enough, Ive also had two(2) Grand Ams before this car that had the exact same problem of which would happen randomly.Needless to say i was very very disappointed when it started happening to the G6 especially when the warranty has also just expired. Although they were able to fix the problem ($600.00 later , most of it labor),history has taught me that its just a matter of when it will happen again .

We got our 2006 G6 buy assuming a lease from a family member. Normally I have always bought/leased a foreign auto but since we were paid to assume this lease from our family member, I decided to give it a shot..Yeah that was a MISTAKE. CAUTION: This car has intermittent loss of powersteering while you are driving. I has happened to my wife several times and we have taken it to the GM garage(towed it actually)and then when the car is restarted, the powersteering works for a short time until it stops working again. My wife wont drive the car anymore especially with the kids. Since I have taken it, it happens all the time. Fortunately, my lease ends in a few days so I can get rid of this car

The new G6 Coupe GTP is amazing! WAY better than I ever expected. The coupe features Mercedes-Benz style windows that lower 1/2 inch to allow tighter seals around the window: class act! Pontiac looks like its turing itself around and putting the sport back into GM. For those of you who like seeing behind you while you drive, you may find the head rests and the small rear window to be intrusive, as the headrests block almost 50% of the rear view. Finally, the standard Stabilitrak system on the GTP keeps you on track...hopefully Pontiac will offer it to the "snow belt" on the other trim models.

  • G6 GTP Unreliable - 2006 Pontiac G6

I have had my G6 GTP for a little over 8 months and have had it in for repairs 9 times. I have a manual transmission and am continually having problems with it. I have lost reverse twice and they had to replace the shifter The sun roof (not panoramic) has leaked 3 times and the dealer has had to replace the carpet. When the car works I love to drive it but it doesnt work long before it breaks. I have spoken to 2 different GM reps and they refuse to replace the car. I am just a few days short of meeting the lemon law requirements and will be asking that they buy the car back. It does not appear TO ME that Pontiac stands behind its product or cares about its customers,

I have had my G6 for almost 3 years. It has 63K on it right now and the transmission slips/jerks sometimes when it switches gears. I have had it looked at 4 times and the last time they told me it needed a computer update and that would fix the problem. Hate to break it to them, but that didnt fix anything. PPl I talked to says it may be the trans fluid, but theres not anywhere to check it, you HAVE to take it to the dealership to have that checked. They said that wasnt the problem either. When you turn the car to the left the steering makes a clicking sound too. My CD player is starting to mess up on me, Im just tired of having issues with my car. Ill never own another Pontiac!!!

  • A Really Good Car - 2006 Pontiac G6

I drove this car as a rental on one of my trips then traded in my Focus for one a month later. This is a really good car. Easy to drive, smooth on the road. Nice lines, good fuel economy, lots of rear leg room (very important for tall family members). A great family sports car (love the power of the V6 engine) and a good value. My parents have one too. Its too bad they are getting rid of the Pontiac line.

I just bought a 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Hardtop Convertible with the premium package. I love it! IMO, the GTP is definitely worth the extra $, for more horsepower and features. The hardtop works perfectly and fit and finish are top notch. Pickup, ride and handling are excellent.

  • Im a believer now - 2006 Pontiac G6

Ive always wanted a convertible. I grew up in Ohio, and now live in California. I figured there was no better place to finally take the plunge and buy a convertible, but I did not want a ragtop. This was the perfect mix of indulgence and practicality. The back seats are big enough for my Child Seat and booster seat (I have a 6 and 3 yr. old) and they LOVE it! Finally, a convertible that can actually be functional with kids! I got the 3.9 liter GTP and its a blast. Good power and handling, and very fun to drive. I constantly get flattering comments from people when they see it, and most (including myself) have a hard time believing its a Pontiac! I highly recommend this car.

  • GM is closing the Gap!! - 2006 Pontiac G6

Ive had my 06 GTP Coupe for 1600 miles now, and I love it. The 3.9L 240hp V-6 makes this car a blasat to drive. It lets you mess with cars costing a lot more. The gas mileage is good, around 22.0 mpg in mixed driving. The big 18" tires provide plenty of grip, handling, and a good ride. Interior and exterior build quality is on par with more expensive German and Japanese models. I would recommend a look at this car to anyone who does not want to go broke, but does want to have a lot of fun in an every-day-driver.

  • First non-foreign badge car in 17 years - 2006 Pontiac G6

After comparing the G6 with Impala, Civic, and Altima, we decided on the G6 because of the interior creature comforts. Love the Civic but still too small. I am 65" and fit in the G6 with ease. The dealership was helpful and made sure we were set up properly. Unfortunately the power pedals dont work and we purchased the car out of state. Plastics could be a bit more upscale but overall I think this car is a winner. At least the regular sunroof doesnt rob the rear passengers of too much legroom.
