This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

  • From Toyota to Pontiac - 2006 Pontiac G6

After owning Toyotas for 35 years, I finally bought a new US auto. 06 GTP with the 3.9L engine. At the dealership I had no intention of buying a new car as I was there only to pick up the company vehicle. But there it was. $5k off red tag, $1k incentive + $1k off for owning a Toyota.$22k with all the options that I think that you can get. The last time that I had this much fun was when I bought my 04 Roadster. Gas mileage may be lower then expected, but what price can you put on fun. The 3.9L is snappy and the car handles well. If there was one thing that I dont like, might be that the exhaust could be a bit more throaty like the GTO.

  • Surprisingly big! - 2006 Pontiac G6

My wife and I bought our G6 after seemingly driving everything remotely comparable. The G6 has more usable room in the cabin and trunk than anything we drove. Its road manners are that of a bigger and pricier car, delivering a smooth & quiet ride that still lets you have a little fun. The standard features and build quality are superior to any foreign nameplate we looked at. When it was all said and done, the decision to buy the G6 was a no-brainer.

I recently purchased the 06 G6 GTP sedan. I absolutely love it! The car is fast, the stereo is loud and the panoramic roof is excellent. TONS of room in the back to get my 5 year old in and out. If you have kids, and want performance this is definitely the way to go. Anyone who drives it absolutely loves it. Recommend to everyone.

  • The "G" in G6 stands for great! - 2006 Pontiac G6

My wife and I fell in love with the 2006 G6 sedan when we first saw it and took it for a test drive. It is a great car that is a lot of fun to drive. If youre not careful, you can be going alot faster then you realize, as it has a very smooth/comfortable ride and pick up and go. I am extremely happy with everything about our car! We highly recommend a G6 to everyone.

  • All in all, pretty content - 2006 Pontiac G6

Bought this vehicle wrecked and replaced front end. Four months later the brakes locked up and I wrecked, having to replace the front end again. If you keep it out of sticky situations, its a good car. Intake is really low on it as well, so its best to not take it through a deep puddle. Wheel bearings are out at 70,000 miles too. I like the vehicle and reliability, but its best to invest some money in new brakes and such when you buy one. All wrecked G6s are wrecked in the front, making me think other people have had the same problems with their brakes. But, I think any vehicle is going to give you some problems.

  • Beware of Pontiacs - 2006 Pontiac G6

Do not buy a Pontiac, especially from this dealer (Capitol Buick Pontiac GMC in Baton Rouge)! I have only had the car for six months, and it has been in the shop over six times for the same things (broken speaker, leak in the sunroof). I traded in a 97 Nissan Sentra that had only been in the shop for repairs twice in its entire life!!! The dealership keeps on giving me the run around about the repairs. I wonder how many of the dealers have free leaks! They even made the mistake of telling me that there are several G6s that are being brought back because of the same problem!

  • Great 2005 G6 Pontiac - 2006 Pontiac G6

Great on the super highways, I was pleasantly surprised how well it handled at high speeds..Even with the smaller 6 cyl engine it had plenty of muscle for passing or merging...With the seating adjustments and steering wheel option positions it was no problem getting a comfortable and safe position for the longer trips...

Never before interested in Pontiacs, until this model series. There is something interesting and refreshingly unPontiac about every aspect of the GTP GT (sedan). Peformance, comfort, ergonomics and seductive appearance make this care a gem. This car has the best of Italian and Japanese aesthetics. If I had been told that this was an 80s Maserati compact GT replica, Id have fallen for it. This is the best looking 4 pass sports sedan made by either Ford or GM.
