This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

  • Hope you dont get the one I had - 2006 Pontiac G6

I bought this car new from the dealership and it returned frequently. I love the styling and the car is fun to drive when its new, however I drove more miles with a shimmy, shake, or rattle more than not. At 4K the starter burned up and the car smelled like fire for 4 months. Tie rods wore out 3 times, struts broke, finally a rattle in the front end that couldnt be found. GM finally bought the car back and I move into a 2008 Malibu.

  • Exceeds My Expectations - 2006 Pontiac G6

This car exceeds all of the expectations I had for a new car. Fun to drive, good on gas and a definite head-turner on the road. The only drawback I have found is the dark interior which gets very hot in the warm months. The XM Radio is a decided plus.

Fantastic car its comfortable just depending on what day it is some days its great others not so great i recently went on a 375 mile trip got fantastic mpgs epa estimated is only 30 highway and everyone seems to get it so i was very very happy when i got and average of 36.7 mpg which is fantastic for a car of that size and no i wasnt drive 55 like grandma i ran 80 - 85 mph the whole way and i had to slow down for construction then speed back up so it surprised the sh*t out of me when it got that good so far the only problem clunking noise from front driver side which is a known problem and i know what it is and GM updated the part in 2009 so in a G6 = fantastic you gotta get on

Great car for style, handling, and safety; great value for price (GM Smart Buy) and fuel econ.

Wow, what a car!! I love my GTP G6 Coupe!! It rides so smooth and quiet and handles like a dream. The 240 hp along with the 18 inch wheels makes for a fun ride. Ive received many positive comments from complete strangers..always makes ya feel good doesnt it?

  • Love it!!! - 2006 Pontiac G6

I just bought this car last week after test driving civic, accord, eclipse and Scino TC. I had a 2000 Grand Am and it has served me well. This car has more options for the money vs other makes\models and drives very smooth and has plenty of pep. So far, Im very happy with my choice!

Pontiac did a great job in replacing grand am with G6, I am very happy with ride, style & overall performance. I average 22 mpg in city & 33 on hiway. Fun car to drive, GM got this one right!

  • Finally a good product innovation - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

Pontiac division has been needing a new product line to bring it back from its stagnant ho-hum stylings. Ive bought Pontiacs in the past for improved style, comfort and roominess but had been shied away until this hardtop convertible came out. I like the idea of being able to either have a hardtop or convertible, like two cars in one. The hardtop doesnt leak water as in most convertibles tend to have and is much warmer inside in colder weather. The remote control start feature works great on days when its cold outside and you dont want to sit in a cold car waiting for it to warm up. The heated seat feature warms up faster than on other cars. The GTP has more styling over the GT models.

  • 1 year owned and traded in - 2006 Pontiac G6

We bought our 06 with 9000 miles on it last year. Over the past year of ownership, it has been in the shop 5 times: for several squeaks and rattles in the suspension (all struts and cv boots replaced); squeaky brakes; thudding in the steering; and what finally made us trade it in was the cv axle coming out of the transmission, which fortunately we were told didnt require rebuilding the transmission (this time...). Others we know have had Pontiac cars, and even the G6 without these problems. We were hoping to keep this car for at least 10 years, but with its shop record, we couldnt count on that. We went back to owning another Honda. I just think we got a Lemon.

  • ONE OF THE BIGGEST MISTAKES EVER MADE!!!! - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

I am not one to write reviews but I have to write a review on this car. I hate I ever bought this car. Unreliable is an understatement. After about 3 months the car began to shift hard. Had that fixed (so called), and about 9 months after that it is doing the same thing. Had brakes and rotors done on a car I havent even had over a year. My rotors were rusted for some reason. I have a camry that Ive had for 10 years and never experienced rusted rotors but I digress. Point blank, stay away from buying this car. It is a POT (Piece Of Trash)
