This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

Ive owned many Pontiacs and this is one of my favorites. From the sloping rear deck to the 18" wheels, its a looker. Little things like remote starter and heated seats come in very handy on those cool days. The ride is excellent for its size thanks to the long wheel base. More driver headroom than my 04 Grand Prix.

  • Panoramic Roof is a GREAT invention - 2006 Pontiac G6

Gigi (my G6) and I have been crusing Central Jersey for 6 months and so far, Ive loved every minute of it. In my heart, Im a convertible driver. I feared that the panoramic roof wouldnt feed my need for wind. The reality has been the reverse. Due to the multiple settings, Ive been able to open the roof at lower temperatures and get my fresh air fix. Im sure Ill have a bit of lust in my heart once Pontiac launches the G6 Convertible next year, but right now, Im enjoying the cruise.

Ive had this car almost a year now and I have no regrets. This is my first Pontiac and I was very, very hesitant about buying it. I had problems with Ford, Dodge, Mercedes, Jeep, and Chevy in the past but none with Honda and Toyota. I test drove my G6 GTP and felt it offered the most for the buck compared to Honda andToyota. I was just worried about reliability. So far, not one defect or problem! I have aready recommended this car to a few people. Not the best car in the world but possible one of the best well rounded cars for $24,000 and 0% financing. I use it M- F for work and my 06 Vette on the weekends. Great combination for under $78,000!

  • Great car for Pontiac - 2006 Pontiac G6

I, like anybody else, read all the reviews before buying. All I can say is dont listen to people who are trashing it. With my work I rent approx. 15 cars a year (Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans, Chevys, Fords). I honestly cannot say any car was better than the G6. Overall is a great car to drive. We got a great price on it, thousands less than a honda. Interior is worlds ahead of the old Grand Am it replaced. It actually has a personality. I never thought I would own a GM car, but I was actually impressed with this pontiac. If you go into it looking for a Lexus at $16,000 you wont happy. If you take it for what it is, its a great car for a great price. GM still does build some quality cars.

  • Great new Pontiac - 2006 Pontiac G6

My wife and I just traded in our Mustang V6 and bought the G6 V6 with the 3.3l a month ago and were really pleased. Even though the G6 has a smaller motor than the Mustang, the G6 has more get up and go, way better on gas and plenty more room. It was rated @32mpg on the highway and on one of our trips we averaged a whopping 34.9mpg, way better than I expected. Im glad we got the V6 over the 4 cyl. With that kind of mileage, why would you get a 4 cyl.?

  • Great car for the Buck - 2006 Pontiac G6

I purchased the G6 after owning Toyotas only for the last 18 years. The incentives were the first thing that caught my eye, and after a test drive in both the V6 and 4 cylinder models, I decided to give the Pontiac a shot. I have put just over 10,000 miles on the car, and can say the performance, ride and handling are great. What makes this a somewhat negative experience for me is the advertised Hwy mileage, compared to actual mileage. I commute 50 miles one way to work, so the 28 city and 34 hwy miles was what actually sold me. About 95% of my drive is highway, and I have not achieved more than 29 mpg. Its a great car, but GM should put more realistic mileage estimates on the sticker.

  • Pretty good value - 2006 Pontiac G6

I have 85k miles on this car (bought with 27k)and have replaced only "wear" parts, such as brake pads and tires. The replacement of the original battery did seem a little early. No mechanical problems and gets pretty good gas mileage ~27 with more highway driving. OK in snow with FWD and traction control but not the greatest. Snow buildup in wheel well seems to cause vibration at approx 45mph. Just need to remove before driving.

  • The Nice Pontiac - 2006 Pontiac G6

Well, my mom had to go to Chattanooga. So, we had to rent a car. So, it was a choice to rent a brand new Kia Optima or a Pontiac G6. So, I chose the Pontiac G6. But, when we drove off onto the freeway I saw my mom was going 100 mph! But, the car was in kph! We did not live in London or anything related to that. So, we had to drive like this the whole way to Chattanooga. It was too late now because we were already on the way to Chattanooga. But, we managed to get to Chattanooga safely.

  • Great "Sporty" Car - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

Ive owned this car for 3 months, and I am very pleased with this car. I personally spent alot of time researching and test driving different cars and this is what I settled on. A foreign alternative to this car would cost me an additional $6,000, and none of them would have pleased me like the G6 Coupe. The performance is great for its class. Passing cars is a breeze compared to my 00 Taurus. The front seat is very comfortable and has plenty of head/leg room for my 60" frame. The remote start and heated seats are a MUST HAVE for this car. Granted this is not a sports car, even in the GT/GTP packages, but they definitely make for sporty, comfortable, and classy daily driver.

  • Most Bang for your buck - 2006 Pontiac G6

This car comes close to a higher end vehicle with the smoothness of ride and quietness. Its a good car, I put every bell and whistle you could put on the 4dr 2.4 liter and still walked away paying 18K.
