This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

Just got a GT coupe to replace an 05 GT sedan witch was totaled in an accident with 10,000 miles on it. Walked away without a scratch. Saw 30 mpg highway, 21+ around town.Loved that car, so I went out and got the coupe. Only have it a week but love it. Very responsive and fun to drive. It looks great too.

  • Why did I Settle? - 2006 Pontiac G6

Reading whats on here made me cry. It really is a death trap. I have a 2006 Pontiac G6. I didnt have it two months before Engine Power Reduced popped up. I can be on the highway going 60 and my speed will reduce to 35. I wont even be able to pull a hill. I thank God I didnt get in a wreck because of this car. I tried all I can. I dont have any more money to spend on parts that dont help the problem. I cant talk to the people at GM any more. I cant call lawyer any more. I tried giving the car back. I tried turning it in to be repo. But, I will still have to pay remaining balance after they resale the car. I hate this. Paying for a car for 16 months that I cant drive. cant be fixed

  • best in class - 2006 Pontiac G6

dollar for dollar this is the best value in its class. Comfort, styling, performance, this car has it all. Excellent ride in regular V6 model. GT was very stiff and twitchy.

  • Terrible G6! - 2006 Pontiac G6

I am with all the other G6 owners out there have the love hate relationship with their G6. I have had so many problems with my car, we had to buy a separate car that was more dependable just to make sure wed have a car to drive. Now just another problem to add to the list, tonight we started driving 55-60 mph and the stupid thing starts shaking so much that your voice shakes if you try and talk! Love the looks but hate the car! Never buying a Pontiac again, I had 02 Grand Prix and loved it so much I got this. Pontiac really messed up when they built this car!

  • Totally awesome ride - 2006 Pontiac G6

This car is very solid and corners well, reminds me of my former TA. Have driven 1500 miles and averaged 28.4 mpg mostly suburban miles. One Interstate trip of 180 miles, it displayed 32.1 mpg. I am used to a 3800 v6 engine in the Grand Prix but this 3500 is very satisfactory. The small buttons on the steering wheel were hard to get used to.

  • Nice Car, but..Buy The EXtended Warranty - 2006 Pontiac G6
    By -

Very comfortable car, 19MPG city, 30MPG highway. I loved my G6 for comfort and style. But, at 8,000 miles the bumpy ride got much worse, rotors needed resurfaced, steering problems. (Many blog comments on these problems.) But, if you must buy this car - before you buy, drive this car on bumpy roads. Whatever you do, you must buy the extended warranty from the dealer. Ask about steering problems, riding problems, rotor problems. Car rides bumpy, close to the ground like a sports car. Takes turns great..like a sports car. You decide.

My car leaks all the time. I had to replace new front brakes and front roators already twice. I have own the car less than 2 years!! When I turn my left wheel it makes a odd clicking noise. Also, when putting the car in reverse. The shifter gets stuck!!

An excellent choice if youre looking for a fuel efficient sporty sedan that is reasonably priced, has lots of room inside and is a big step forward in build and quality.

  • Better Than I Thought - 2006 Pontiac G6

I have the 6-speed manual. IMO, its the only acceptable form of this car. The 3.9L is sufficiently powerful and the transmission has a wide spread of complementary ratios. However, first gear seems a bit short. You have to up-shift far earlier than one would expect. Overall, this car is great. Onstar, XM and the panaromic roof are neat gee-whiz features. The ride is firm but in no way harsh. The body is free of creaks and rattles (even the sunroof). Fuel economy is at 29mpg right now, which is far higher than expected. The clutch is smooth, if a bit long in travel. The seats are comfortable, rear legroom is impressive, and all the controls are logically placed. A well done car.

  • Its OK - 2006 Pontiac G6

I guess Im just not as blown away as everyone else. We have put 10,000 miles on our GTP now and I think it is a nice car but I do have a couple gripes; fuel economy, and power. It seems like a car with 240 horses should be a little quicker (hint - push and hold the traction control button for 5 second to turn off stability control!). Our average fuel economy is 19-20 mpg with my light-on- the-gas wife driving. Interior and exterior fit and finish are great. The layout of the interior was well thought out. Big trunk with a relatively small opening.
