This Year's Model Updates:

The Pontiac G6 sees a host of changes for the 2006 model year. Starting things off are two new body styles: a two-door coupe and a hardtop convertible. The coupe will be available at the beginning of the model year, while the convertible hits dealer showrooms early in the 2006 calendar year. There are also new trim levels. A four-cylinder base sedan caters to those shoppers on a tighter budget, while a GTP trim increases the G6's performance threshold via the addition of a new 240-hp V6, stability control and an available six-speed manual transmission.

Pros:
  • Huge rear seat, fuel-efficient V6 engines offer ample low-end pull, sporty suspension tuning, power hardtop in convertible model, panoramic sunroof in sedan.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior plastics, numb electric steering, panoramic sunroof eats up rear-seat headroom.

  • A real lemon! - 2006 Pontiac G6

I just had to have this car when it came out. Ive had it now for just over 2 yrs. This car is a piece of crap. I bought a lemon. It has been in the shop 8 times for stabilitrak. The pontiac dealership never made claims against my warranty, so never fixed it. Ive since gotten it fixed. But they were scared it was going to cause my brakes to go out. So now Ive had to pay out of pocket for front and back brakes. Ive purchased Extended Warranty. I now have a hole in my muffler that isnt covered on that. Yesterday I went to open my top and the back part opened and the top went up and fell back down. Lots of squeaks and rattles that the dealer cant fix. Truly a LEMON!

Ive had my car for about a month now and I love it. The V6 packs a great punch, but can get you in trouble. When you hit 80 you still feel like you are going 40. The only thing I wish it came with was a navigation system. That was the only feature that had me looking at other cars, but when it came down to it the novelty and styling were too much for me to pass up on. The other feature that I didnt expect was the trunk space. This car has ridiculous trunk space for a coupe.

I bought this car a little over 2 1/2 yrs ago. When I first got it I loved it but since I have had some reservations. The car is hard to manuver in tight spaces. Its almost as if the wheel is locking or it gives the impression that there is no power steering fluid in the vehicle. I have replaced the windshield 2 times and Ive had problems with it starting and no one can seem to tell me why it wouldnt start. Its running great now and I want to believe that every thing will be just fine in 09.

  • Fun, fun fun. - 2006 Pontiac G6

Bought this car to match the fun I have with my motorcycle. I use every hand and foot to shift and brake with it and I wanted a car to match that level of involvement. This G6 GTP is a hoot to drive and it goes like a fireball when I put my foot into it. Lots of fun but can get well over 25 mpg when I drive like my wife does.

I purchased this car over a month ago, and the driving still impresses me. It has excellent handling around curves and turns, and stay right with you wherever you want to go. The car gets decent gas mileage, and provides awesome acceleration for a 4-door. Unfortunately the coupes are basically the same car with less doors, so the back passengers will lose space to sit, but in my 4 door there is more room in there than you think. 4 full sized adult males could comfortably go on a road trip in this.

  • great little car - 2006 Pontiac G6

Just got my G6 and so far its a good car. Only problems I have so far is my stereo cuts out alot and its just the front speakers that do this and the other is that if Im going 55 mph my rpms are at 3000. Is anyone else seeing this or is it just my little 4 cylinder? That seems high and would get better gas mileage if it was lower. Would love to hear if yours is the same way.

  • What a great car - 2006 Pontiac G6

I drove one of these convertibles as soon as I could find one and fell instantly in love. Had to wait six months to find one slightly used, but it was well worth the wait. Drove it 2000 miles home from where I purchased and it was a perfect trip. Great ride, great responsiveness, comfortable and much more economical than I would have imagined with such good performance. I get between 31 and 32 mpg out on the Interstate. The interior is very roomy for four with lots of leg room. I have driven sporty Pontiacs off and on over the years and this is the absolute best. I saved more than $40,000 by not buying a similar Lexus and have better ride and lots more room.

  • Great car - 2006 Pontiac G6

Ive had my G6 for about 3 years with about 32,00 miles on it. I have about 99,000 miles on it now. Ive had a few minor issues but nothing major and nothing compared to the issues described in a lot of the reviews. I love my car, it drives great, handles great and sounds amazing!

  • Disappointment - 2006 Pontiac G6

I bought my car new, and have had nothing but problems. I consider myself an above average driver, as I put a lot of care into my cars. However, in the 3 years that I have had it I have replaced the following: CD player, front windshield, cruise control, steering column, head unit (#2 cylinder was misfiring), and now I have to replace the converter. Whats next? I am never buying Pontiac again!!

Approx 3k miles as of Aug 2006. At 300 miles, had oil leak. Dealer replaced rear engine seal. Multiple paint issues. Black paint did not cover primer and was very transparent on deck lid. Paint is very thin on this vehicle. Being in the auto repair business, I know what to look for and honestly feel GM could have done a better refinishing job on this vehicle.
